Queens, NY – The Wagner College men's basketball team will travel to Big East Member St. John's on Saturday, with tip-off scheduled for 12 pm on FS2.

Veterans Getting Into A Groove

Wagner's three returners made a big impact in Saturday's loss to Stony Brook. Junior Nigel Jackson tied a career high with 22 points and eight made field goals, while setting a new career best with six three-pointers. In his second game back from injury, junior Chase Freeman was on the floor for a career-high 39 minutes while tying his all-time best with five assists and five rebounds. The third Seahawk returner, junior Tyrone Nesby IV, set new career bests in minutes (45), and three-pointers (5) against the Seawolves.

Consecutive Overtime Games

The Seahawks played consecutive overtime games last week, winning the road tilt against Saint Peter's while falling in last-second fashion to Stony Brook. It marks the first time in the Bashir Mason era that Wagner has played back-to-back overtime games. In the mid-week victory, the Seahawks outscored Saint Peter's 20-16 in the extra period to earn an exciting 81-77 victory.
Cobb Closes In On 1,000 Points

Against the Peacocks, graduate Student Curtis Cobb III, who missed Saturday's game due to injury, led the way once again with 25 points, including the first eight points of the game for Wagner and 10 in overtime. For his career, Cobb is now just 12 points shy of the 1,000 point mark after scoring 687 points in two years at Fairfield, 193 points in one season at UMass, and 108 points in five games for the Seahawks. This season, Cobb is averaging 21.6 points per game, including a season-high 40 points in Wagner's first home game of the year against Wesley.

Ford And Cobb Named Prime Performers

For their performances last week, junior Elijah Ford and Cobb were named #NECPrimePerformers. Earning his first two starts as a Seahawk, Ford averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, including a career-high 13 boards against the Peacocks. For the season, Ford is now averaging 12.4 points and seven rebounds in five appearances.
Community Service

With the holiday season in full swing, the Seahawks gave back to the community on Tuesday, helping out at Project Hospitality on Staten Island.

Scouting The Red Storm
St. John's comes into the weekend with a 5-2 record, most recently earning a 78-63 victory over UMass while falling 80-57 against Arizona State at the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament. Statistically, AJ Figueroa leads St. John's with 15.3 points per game, while Josh Roberts leads the Red Storm with 8.7 rebounds per game.

The Series

Saturday's game will mark the 21st meeting between the two teams, with St. John's holding an 18-2 advantage in the all-time series. Last season, redshirt senior guard Romone Saunders tossed in 17 points and Wagner held a 30-29 lead early in the second half before St. John's pulled away for a 73-55 win.

Next Up For Wagner

Following Saturday's contest, the Seahawks will take the road on December 14 for a 2:00 pm matchup against Hartford.
