Staten Island, NY – Mike Rastivo and Will McNamara scored three goals apiece to lead the Saint Joseph's University men's lacrosse team to a 12-7 Northeast Conference (NEC) victory over Wagner College at Hameline Field on Saturday.

In seeing their two-game winning streak come to an end, the Seahawks fall to 4-6 on the season and 0-2 in NEC play, while the Hawks improve to 5-3 overall, 2-0 in league.

After Saint Joe's jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, Wagner responded with goals by senior attackman Andrew Streilein and junior attackman John Norton to tie the game at 2-2 with 5:10 left in the opening quarter.

Streilein's goal was a particularly noteworthy effort as he picked off a SJU pass out of the air near midfield on a Hawks' clear attempt, and sprinted 20 yards in the open field before uncorking a shot past goalie Mike Adler.

After Norton's blast from in close knotted the score at 2-2, the Hawks reeled off four answered goals in building a 6-2 halftime lead, shutting out the Seahawks by a 3-0 margin in the second quarter.

SJU then opened the second half with a 2-0 burst in extending its lead to 8-2. Wagner answered with consecutive goals by sophomore attackman Nic Ancona, off a Streilein feed, followed by a score from senior midfielder Joe Lomeli, who received a nifty cross-field pass from junior attackman Davis Prince.

The Prince to Lomeli sore, which opened the fourth quarter scoring at the 12:11 mark, made it an 8-4 game. The Hawks countered with two goals to make it a 10-4 game. Wagner would cut the deficit to four on another two occasions, at 10-6 with 7:05 left on Ancona's second tally of the game, and again at 11-7 with 2:26 left on Streilein's second goal, before SJU notched the game's final tally in fashioning the final score at 12-7.

Streilein (2g, 1a) and Norton (1g, 2a) paced the Seahawks with three points apiece, Ancona had two points on a pair of goals, while senior midfielder JP Pawela added one score.

In goal, junior Matt Sefcik came up with 12 saves on the afternoon while his counterpart, Adler, finished with 10.

The Seahawks outshot SJU 38-34 and, thanks to sophomore midfielder Nick Warren and freshman midfielder Hank Ontiveros, were able to win 13-of-23 faceoffs. Warren led the way with a 7-of-11 effort in the X while Ontiveros was 6-of-12.

Turnovers played a significant role in today's outcome as the Seahawks' lost the ball 14 times while SJU turned the ball over just nine times.

The Green & White are next in action on Saturday, April 7 when they continue NEC play by traveling to Smithfield, RI to meet the Bryant University Bulldogs.
