Stockton, CA – After rain washed away Friday's play on day one of the Louisville Slugger Tournament, hosted by the University of the Pacific, the Wagner College softball team was finally able to take the field today, falling by a 3-0 count to San Jose State University on Saturday.
This was the lone game the Seahawks were able to get in, however, as the second game of the day against the host Pacific Tigers was canceled due to inclement weather.
In today's game, Wagner fell behind on an Emma Entzminger RBI single in the first. The Spartans tacked on two more runs in the second in taking a 3-0 lead.
The Green and White threatened in the fourth inning, as junior
Karen Prihoda singled to lead off the frame and advanced to second on an error, but the Seahawks were unable to capitalize on the runner in scoring position.
In the fifth, a single by sophomore
Kaila Smith, as well as a hit-by-pitch and an error put the tying run on base, but the Seahawks were unable to get a run across.
In the circle, reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week
Arielle Koerber pitched well in defeat, allowing just three runs over six innings.
Due to the cancellations in the past two days, tomorrow's schedule has been revised.
The Seahawks are slated to take on the University of the Pacific at 3:00 PM PT.
