Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College swimming and diving team will open the 2018 calendar year this weekend, as the Seahawks travel to Fairfield, CT, to take on the Stags as well as Saint Peter's at the Fairfield Tri-Meet on Friday, starting at 4:00 PM.
The Green and White will look to continue where it left off in 2017, as the Seahawks repeated as ECAC Winter Champions in dominating fashion to end the last calendar year. Backed by four first-place finishes and a strong all-around team performance, Wagner was the only team to score over 1,000 points in totaling 1277.5 points in three days.
In addition to the team title, junior
Andrea Gustafsson and senior
Sam Lavrich were named Northeast Conference (NEC) Swimmer and Diver of the Week following their performances, while Gustafsson earned the ECAC's Female Swimmer of the Meet award in the process.
This Friday, Wagner will once again face top competition, as the Stags come into the weekend with a 4-1 record in dual meets, which includes victories over Holy Cross, Monmouth, Providence, and Marist. At the ECAC Championships, Fairfield earned a second-place finish behind Wagner.
The Peacocks, Wagner's second opponent of the meet, are coming off a fifth-place finish at the H2ounds Invitational as well as a victory over Stony Brook, which marked Saint Peter's' first victory of the season in dual meet competition.
Following this weekend, the Green and White returns to the Spiro Sports Center for back-to-back home meets against Rhode Island on January 13 and against LIU Brooklyn on January 27.
