Teaneck, NJ - Trailing 4-3 entering the final inning, freshman designated hitter Freddy Sabido (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner [Saint Louis Univ]) connected on the go-ahead two-run home run in leading the Wagner baseball team to a 5-4 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.

With the win, the Seahawks stand at 15-23 overall and 7-9 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while the Knights fall to 12-25 and remain a game up on Wagner at 8-9 in league contests.

Sabido, who went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two home runs in game one, finished 2-for-5 at the plate in game two, with two runs scored and drove in four of the team's five RBIs, while blasting his fifth and sixth home runs of the season. Freshman 1B/3B Nick D'Amore (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) connected on his second home run of the season while going 1-for-4. Junior SS Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]) was the only other Seahawk to record a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Wagner freshman starter, RHP Chris Mormile (Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood) went 6.1 innings, giving up nine hits, four runs (three earned) while walking two and striking out six in taking the no-decision. Sophomore RHP reliever, Douglas Molnar (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) came on in relief of Mormile, tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just one hit while walking one and striking out one in taking the victory (2-4).

FDU's Matt McCann, Ryan Brennan and Mike Veit each had two hits for the Knights with McCann, Brennan, Owen Vonesslinger, and Veit delivering an RBI apiece. The Knights' starter, Danny Demetrops, went six innings, giving up four hits, three earned runs while walking three and striking out three in taking the no-decision. James Sharkey came on to throw a score 1.1 innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Ryan Brennan, who was credited with the save in game one, took the loss in the nightcap, going 1.2 innings and allowing two hits and the eventual go-winning runs while striking out two Seahawks.

Wagner got on the board first in the top of the first. Mazzio led off the game with a single to center field. On a 1-1 pitch from Demetrops, Sabido crushed his third home run of the day over the center field wall as the Seahawks claimed a 2-0 lead. The Seahawks added one more in the top of the second as D'Amore clubbed his second home run of the day, a deep shot over the left field wall as the visitors went up 3-0.

Fairleigh Dickinson responded with a run in their half of the second, third and fourth, in taking a 3-2 lead. Veit sent an infield single to shortstop, allowing Jorge Iza to score in the second. Vonesslinger did the same in the third, scoring Brennan from third after he stole second and reached on a throwing error from the Seahawks catcher.  On a full count, McCann singled through the right side that scored Brandon Seltzer from second in the fourth. The Knights tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Bobby Romano singled through the left side and promptly stole second. Brennan brought him into score on a single to right center as FDU led 4-3.

After Wagner couldn't complete the comeback in game one, the Seahawks were facing a similar fate in game two. Facing two outs, Wagner changed the narrative as Mazzio singled back up the middle on a 2-1 pitch. On the first pitch that Sabido saw from Brennan, the towering 6-7 designated hitter nearly sent the ball to exact spot he did in the first, as Wagner went ahead 5-4.

The Knights had a chance for the walk-off win. Molnar got Seltzer to ground out to third for the first out of the ninth. McCann was able to take Molnar's 0-1 pitch down the left field line for a double. The second-year Seahawk reliever struck out Romano looking at strike three, as FDU was down to its last out. An intentional walk to Brennan, gave the Knights runners on first and second. Evan McDonald, who hit two homeruns in game one, flew out to center ending the ballgame.

Wagner and Fairleigh Dickinson conclude their series tomorrow, May 7, at 1:00 p.m.
