Seahawks Fall To Mount St. Mary's 6-3 In Game One Of Friday's Doubleheader

Emmitsburg, MD – The Wagner College baseball team dropped game one of Friday's Northeast Conference (NEC) doubleheader to Mount St. Mary''s 6-3 at the E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
 
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 19-26 and 11-12 in conference play while the Mountaineers improve to 8-37 and 5-21 in league contests.
 
Senior co-captain RHP Danny Marsh (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) went five innings, giving up four hits, one earned run while walking three and striking out five. Sophomore RHP Douglas Molnar (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) pitched a scoreless sixth inning. Freshman Nick Robino (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum School) was charged with the loss after giving up the game-winning grand slam.
 
Freshman 1B Nick D'Amore (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Freshman designated hitter Freddy Sabido (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner [Saint Louis Univ.]) went 1-for-4 with a run scored and clubbed his team-leading eighth home run. Junior SS Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]) drove in the other run for the visitors.
 
Mount's Michael Collins threw 6.2 innings, allowing five hits, three earned runs while walking three and striking out four. Trey McGough was credited with the victory after pitching a third of an inning allowing just a hit.  Vaughn Parker II went 2-for-4 with a run scored and connected on the game-winning grand slam. Will Enrico ended the day 2-for-3 with an RBI while Tyler Post and Jared Urban each had a hit with Post delivering an RBI in the victory.
 
The Seahawks scored two runs to start the scoring. Sophomore catcher Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) walked which brought up Sabido, who launched a two-run home run over the right center field wall, giving Wagner the early lead.
 
From that point, no runs came across until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Mountaineers cut the lead in half. With two outs and down to his last strike, Enrico belted a ground-rule double to left center field, scoring Urban. Marsh was able to get out of the inning with a strikeout of Dennis Stewart.
 
Following a scoreless sixth, the Green & White added a run in the top of the seventh in taking a 3-1 lead. D'Amore led off with double to right field and moved to third after junior 2B Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) reached on a bunt single. Mazzio sent a deep fly to right field as D'Amore tagged up on the play and scored.
 
Robino came on in the bottom of the seventh and struck out the leadoff hitter, Alex Kriss. Robino would then walk Urban but came rally back to get Patrick Causa to fly out for the second out. Post doubled to left center, scoring Urban, closing the gap to 3-2. Enrico was intentionally walked and Stewart drew a six-pitch walk, loading the bases for Parker.

After fouling off the first pitch from Robino Parker took the second pitch of the at-bat over the left field wall, giving Mount the 6-3 victory.
