Emmitsburg, MD – In another high scoring contest, freshman 1B/3B
Nick D'Amore (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) launched a mammoth solo home run in the top of the ninth that proved to be the game-winner as, the Wagner College Seahawks defeated the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers by a score of 10-9 in the nightcap of Friday's doubleheader.
With the victory, the Green & White stands at 20-26 and 12-12 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play. The Mountaineers fall to 8-38 and 5-22 in league play. With one game left on the conference schedule, the Seahawks are currently tied for third place with Sacred Heart, who swept its doubleheader with LIU Brooklyn, 6-5 and 2-1.
Sacred Heart is now 13-13 in conference play while LIU Brooklyn fell to fifth, with a conference record of 12-13. Both teams conclude their series tomorrow in Brooklyn at 1:00 p.m., the same time the Seahawks and Mountaineers play their series-finale.
D'Amore ended the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and the game-winning home run. Junior SS

Freddy Sabido (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner [Saint Louis Univ.]) had himself a day, recording his first career collegiate win on the mound, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing five hits, one earned run with two walks and strikeouts in relief of freshman starter,
Chris Mormile (Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood). At the plate, Sabdio went 1-for-4 with a run scored as he connected on his team-best ninth home run of the season.
After two innings of play, Wagner built a 6-0 lead. With one out in the top of the first, Godino connected on his sixth round tripper of the season, a solo shot to left center field. The Seahawks erupted for five more runs in the second in taking a six-run lead. Godino struck again with a single to left, scoring D'Amore from second. Following a walk to Capra, Sabido launched his third home run of the series, a grand slam off Mount's starter, Zach Call.
The Seahawks tacked on three more runs in the top of the third, extending the lead to 9-0. Brey doubled and Mazzio followed with a single back up the middle, scoring Brey. With Godino reaching on a fielder's choice, Capra ended Call's day with a two-run home run to right field.
Mount St. Mary's climbed back into the contest with four runs in the bottom of the third. Alex Kriss scored the first run for the home team, coming in on a wild pitch after starting the threat with a single to center. Will Enrico lined out to centerfield in which Jared Urban tagged up and scored from third. Vaughn Parker II, who was responsible for the game-winner in game one, singled to left, loading the bases for Zach Hostetter, who brought in two runs on a RBI-single to right.
The Mountaineers completed their comeback, scoring four times in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game at 9-9. Brendan Dabagian led off the fourth with a walk and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Alex Kriss also drew a free pass and promptly stole second, while Dabagian raced in to score on the throw to second base. Patrick Causa singled to center, giving runners one the corners with one out. On a 1-0 pitch, Tyler Post homered to left center, ending Mormile's day. Sabido came in and ended the threat by getting a pop up to short and fly out to left.
In the Mountaineers' fifth, Hostetter singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Sean Kelly. Dabagian grounded out to first, moving Hostetter to third. Kriss was able to leg out a base hit that was fielded behind the third base bag, scoring the tying-run.
D'Amore and the Seahawks wasted no time in the top of the ninth. Trey McGough's first pitch to start the frame was sent over the left field wall as D'Amore notched his third home run of the season. In the bottom of the frame, Sabido was able to get the first two batters of the stanza. The tall, left-hander issued a walk to Dabagian and a single to Kriss before getting Urban to foul out to third, ending the ballgame.
McGough was tagged with the loss, falling to 2-4 on the season. Causa and Kriss had three hits for the Mountaineers while Post and Hostetter combined to drive in five of the nine runs for the Mountaineers in defeat.
These two teams will conclude the 2017 season tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Mount St. Mary's will honor their seniors in a pregame ceremony before the start of the game.
