Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team began its 2017 home slate with two losses to the Quinnipiac University Bobcats on Saturday.
The Seahawks dropped the first game by a score of 4-0, before losing 9-4 in game 2 of the afternoon.
With the two losses, the Green and White fall to 4-15 on the season.

Wagner failed to score a run for just the second time this season in game one.
Seniors
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown West) and
Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA / Valley Center), junior
Stefanie Aplin (Nesconset, NY / Smithtown East / Georgian Court University), as well as freshmen
Alyssa Tucker (Laguna Niguel, CA / Santa Margarita Catholic) and
Zoe Bender (Glen Rock, NJ / Glen Rock) ,each reached base safely in the contest, with Gilbert connecting for the Seahawks' lone only extra base hit,
Wagner yielded two home runs to the Bobcats, as Kaela Cordeiro led the way with three RBIs which came via a two-run shot and an RBI double.
Senior
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL / Lakewood Ranch) suffered the loss in the circle after pitching 4.2 innings, while freshman
Amelia Van Orman (Orange, CA / Lutheran High School of Orange County) made her first of two relief appearances on the day, giving up one run in 2.1 innings of work.
Game 2 Recap – Quinnipiac 9, Wagner 5
The Seahawks got on the board in the second inning, when an error at first base allowed sophomore
Erica Krumbine (Freehold, NJ / Saint John Vianney High School) to reach and sent the ball into foul territory, giving Van Orman the chance to score Wagner's first run of the afternoon.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first two innings, led by Miranda Magana's two home runs, and scored four more runs in the third inning.
The Green and White answered in form of a
Hana Gilbert two-run double to right center, which scored both Bender and sophomore
Karen Prihoda (Hamilton Square, NJ / The Lawrenceville School).
In the fourth inning, freshman
Alyssa Tucker (Laguna Niguel, CA / Santa Margarita Catholic) knocked a line drive over the left field wall for her first collegiate home run, cutting the deficit to 9-4.
Late in the game, another Gilbert RBI, this time on a single to right that plated Bender, gave the Seahawks their fifth run of the contest.
After earning two wins during the week at Manhattan, junior
Morgan Brown (Buckeye, AZ / Verrado) moved to 4-3 with the loss.
Wagner tallied eight hits in game two, led by Gilbert and Tucker's two hits apiece.
Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Rider for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 29, with game one set to begin at 2:30 pm.
