Washington, D.C. - The Wagner College baseball team fell 3-2 to the Holy Cross Crusaders in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at St. Albans School.

The Seahawks (1-10) got six shutout innings from senior RHP Austin Goeke (Bordentown, NJ/The Hun School). Goeke allowed just four hits while walking two and striking out seven batters. The veteran right-hander had a no-hitter working through the first three innings, in which he struck out four batters. Freshman Ryan Lauk (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) dropped to 0-2 on the season. At the plate, senior catcher Brendan Benecke (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) was credited with the lone RBI for the Green & White while finishing 1-for-3. Freshman DH Freddy Sabido (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner [Saint Louis University]) and junior LF Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) scored the runs for Wagner.

The game was scoreless through the first six innings before the Seahawks scored the first runs of the contest.

Sabido doubled to left field. Godino reached on a fielder's choice bunt back to the pitcher as Sabido raced to third. Junior 2B Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) walked to load the bases for the Seahawks. After Holy Cross had gone to the bullpen, Benecke singled through the left side, scoring Sabido for a 1-0 lead. Wagner tacked on another run in the frame as junior SS Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School) reached on an error by the Crusaders' third baseman, plating Godino.

Holy Cross (3-10) got on the board in the bottom of the eighth as Cam O'Neill homered to left field on off freshman reliever Nick Robino (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum School). After Wagner had gone down in order in the top of the ninth, Holy Cross was able to get the tying run on in the form of Austin Masel, who led off the inning with a single to left, setting up the game-winner off the bat of Critelli.
