Provo, UT – Despite falling to #25 BYU in today's doubleheader, the Wagner College softball team put forth a valiant effort, leading by a score of 4-1 after four innings in game two before dropping a 5-4 decision.
In game one, the nationally-ranked Cougars moved past the Seahawks by a score of 7-1.
Game 2 Recap – BYU 5, Wagner 4
Wagner compiled two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead in game two before falling to the Cougars on a walk-off fielder's choice in the seventh.
After senior
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown West) singled and freshman
Kaila Smith (Millville, NJ / Millville) walked to lead off the fourth inning, a groundout by first-year Seahawk
Amelia Van Orman (Orange, CA / Lutheran High School of Orange County) moved the runners up and allowed Tredway to score on an ensuing wild pitch.
Next up, sophomore
Jessica Carlucci (Manalapan, NJ / Saint John Vianney High School) doubled to center field to score Smith, giving Wagner a 2-1 lead in the game.
The Wagner offense continued to soar in the fifth, as sophomore
Karen Prihoda (Hamilton Square, NJ / The Lawrenceville School) and freshman
Kat Holmes-Stall (Trabuco Canyon, CA / Santa Margarita Catholic) reached base safely to set up a two-run double by Tredway which put the Seahawks out in front 4-1.
BYU countered with a three-run fifth inning and walked off on a fielder's choice in the seventh inning to secure the comeback win.
Both teams were tied with six hits in the contest, with Wagner leaving four runners on base throughout the game.

The Seahawks gave up four runs in the second inning and three runs in the fourth, while combining for one run on four hits offensively themselves in the first game of the afternoon.
Wagner's lone run of the game came in the top of the fifth inning, as freshman
Kaila Smith (Millville, NJ / Millville) launched her third home run of the season to give her a team-leading eighth RBI and get the Seahawks on the board.
Seniors
Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA / Valley Center) and
Brianna Tredway, along with freshman
Zoe Bender (Glen Rock, NJ / Glen Rock), also had base hits for the Green and White.
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL / Lakewood Ranch) suffered the loss in the circle, while first-year Seahawk
Amelia Van Orman (Orange, CA / Lutheran High School of Orange County) threw three innings in relief.
The Seahawks will return to Staten Island for their home opener on March 22 against Manhattan.
