Hackensack, NJ – The Wagner women's fencing team continued its inaugural season on Saturday at the FDU invitational, picking up multiple victories across both Epee and Foil competitions.
The Seahawks won the Epee weapon over Hunter, as freshman
Rebecca Errickson (Annandale, NJ / North Hunterdon) and graduate student
Michelle Detka (Buckeye, AZ / Verrado (University of Houston)) picked up two victories each, while newcomer
Clare McCaffrey (Babylon, NY / Babylon), fencing in her first collegiate meet, gave the Green and White one point in the 5-4 victory.
Freshman
Anais Mazic (Vienna, Austria / VBS Draschestrasse) swept all three of her opponents in the foil competition against the Hawks, while also picking up two victories versus Stevens. Errickson finished the day with two wins each against Stevens and Brandeis, while edging her opponent from Fairleigh Dickinson for an additional win.
Graduate student Corinne Rondina (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) picked up two wins over Stevens, with Detka also taking one point away from the Ducks and classmate
Kristen Hayes (Menands, NY / Shaker) winning two matchups against NJIT and one over the hosting Knights.
Today's meet concludes the dual matches for the Seahawks, who will next compete at the 2017 Junior Olympics on February 18 before fencing at the NCAA Regional Championships in March.
