Philadelphia, PA – Tanaya Atkinson scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Desiree Oliver added 18 points to lead the Temple women's basketbal to a 70-36 win over Wagner on Thursday night at McGonigle Hall.
 
With the win, the Owls move to 2-1 on the season while the Seahawks fall to 0-3.
 
Temple jumped out of the gates quickly, building an 18-2 lead en route to holding a 39-14 edge at the half. Of Wagner's 14 opening-half points, fifth-year senior forward Sierra Clark (Hughesville, MD / Archbishop Spaulding / Adelphi) had 11, to go with a team-high seven rebounds. The other Wagner points in the first half came on a three-pointer by senior guard Tanasia Russell (Vineland, NJ / Vineland).
 
Redshirt freshman small forward Taylah Simmons (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia / Canterbury Girls' Secondary) made her much anticipated collegiate debut. After sitting out the first two games of the season due to illness, the 6-0 Simmons checked into the lineup with 18:14 remaining in the first half.
 
For the game, Clark, who tallied 22 points at James Madison on Sunday, led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds, both team highs, in recording her first double-double of the season. Simmons was Wagner's second-leading scorer with eight points, to go with five rebounds, three steals and one assist in 30 minutes of action.
 
Russell wound up with seven points while freshman guard Alayshia Dailey (Severn, MD. Old Mill), who made the first start of her collegiate career, had three points.
 
The Seahawks will make their 2017-18 debut at the Spiro Sports Center when they play host to the University of New Hampshire Wildcats in an 11:30 a.m. tip-off. The Wagner-New Hampshire women's game will be followed at 2:00 p.m. when the Seahawk men's team hosts American University.
