Jersey City, NJ – A powerful day at the plate gave the Wagner softball team the runs it needed to sweep St. Peter's in a doubleheader on a sunny Thursday afternoon.

With the doubleheader sweep, the Seahawks improve to 11-12 while the Peacocks fall to 0-17 on year.

Game 1: Wagner 6 St. Peter's 2

Wagner got off to a hot start, posting three runs in the second inning. Back to back singles by freshman second baseman Karen Prihoda (Hamilton Square, NJ/The Lawrenceville School) and junior third baseman Aerika High (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) put runners in scoring position. A two RBI single to right field by freshman shortstop Erica Krumbine (Freehold, NJ/Saint John Vianney) scored both and put Wagner on the board. Freshman right fielder Lauren Serrato (Litchfield Park, AZ/Verrado) singled up the middle to score Krumbine and give Wagner its third run of the inning.

Prihoda singled up the middle in the top of the fourth to score Maite Reece (Covina, CA/Gabrielino), who pinch ran for freshman catcher Jessica Carlucci (Manalapan, NJ/Saint John Vianney). High had a RBI single to left field to score sophomore Maddie Marable (Reno, NV/Earl Wooster). Reece then executed a sacrifice bunt to score Prihoda to close out the scoring in the fourth inning.

Saint Peter's mounted a rally in the bottom of the seventh when Lee Harrison put the Peacocks on the board with a solo shot over the left field fence. From there, Saint Peter's managed to load the bases and then score another run with just one out.

A pitching change in the circle brought in junior McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) who finished the job in just two batters to secure the 6-2 victory.

Sophomore Morgan Brown (Buckeye, AZ/Verrado) picked up the win, pitching 6.1 innings allowing two runs while scattering five hits and five strikeouts.

Prihoda went a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored while Serrato was 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Krumbine was 1-for2 with two RBI and one run scored while High was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.

Game 2: Wagner 11 St. Peter's 0

Four homeruns from three Seahawks and 14 hits lifted the Seahawks over the Peacocks 11-0 in five innings to close out Thursday's doubleheader.

Junior Gina Massaro (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) pitched her first colligate shutout, striking out six batters while allowing a miniscule three hits.

Carlucci was 2-for-2 highlighted by a homerun and two RBIs. The three other Seahawk homeruns came from junior left fielder Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA/Valley Center) and junior centerfielder Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) and Krumbine. Krumbine launched a two-run homer to right center.

Tredway, Gilbert, Carlucci, Massaro and Krumbine each registered two hits apiece for Wagner.

Serrato, High, Marable and Drew Duffy (Phoenix, AZ/Verrado) also contributed a hit during the contest.

The Seahawks return Saturday, April 2, when they open Northeast Conference (NEC) play in their home opener against the Robert Morris Colonials at 1:00 p.m. Wagner then hosts NEC-foe Saint Francis University for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 3 at 12:00 p.m.
