Emmitsburg, MD – After erupting for a season-high 20 runs in the series opener, the Wagner baseball team's hot hitting carried over into this afternoon's first game of a twin bill, defeating the Mount St. Mary's, 17-4.

With the win, the Seahawks improve to 6-9 overall and 2-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while the Mountaineers fall to 2-14 and 1-5 in league play.
Freshman catcher Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) went a career-best 4-for-5 with a homerun, three runs batted in and scored twice.  Junior SS Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) and freshman 1B Anthony Harrold (Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) each went 3-for-5 with Mascelli launching his third homerun of the season while Harrold scored three runs in the victory.

Sophomore RF Kyle Cala (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) concluded the game 2-for-3 at the plate while scoring three runs, blasting his first homerun of the year while driving in 4 RBIs. Senior RHP Mike Adams (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Holy Spirit) earned his first victory of the season, tossing five innings while giving up five hits, four earned runs, walking three and striking out four Mountaineers.  Freshman reliever Cory Heitler (Fairlawn, NJ/Fairlawn) came on in relief of Adams, tossing two innings of shutout ball in preserving the Seahawks' sixth victory of the year.

Wagner scored the game's first tally in the top of the first. With one-out and the bases loaded, Capra singled through the right side scoring sophomore 3B Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]) from third. Mount answered back with two runs in their half of the second. After a walk to Vaughn Parker II, Patrick Causa sent Adams' full-count pitch over the left field fence, giving the home team a 2-1 lead. The Seahawks answered right back in the top of the third as Mascelli led off the frame with his third homerun of the year and knotted the score at 2-2.

The Green & White added three runs in the fourth off back-to-back doubles from freshman LF Anthony Pecora (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) and sophomore 2B Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) as Wagner went up 5-2.  For the second straight inning, Adams was able to retire the home team in order, after strikeouts of Parker and Causa and a groundout to Mazzio off the back of Zach Call.

The Seahawks tacked on four runs in the top of the fifth. With the count in his favor 2-0, Capra sent the delivery from Seth Schubert over the right field fence, as Wagner led 7-2. Following a Harrold single, Cala took the first pitch he saw deep over the left field porch as Wagner claimed a 9-2 lead. The Mount chipped into the deficit in the bottom of the stanza, as Alex Kriss sent a two-run home run to right center as the Mountaineers trailed now 9-4.

After a scoreless sixth inning, the Seahawks' bats continued to stay hot, as in the top of the seventh, Wagner sent 12 batters to the plate while adding eight runs to its total. Senior CF Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ/West-Windsor Plainsboro South) drove in Mascelli with a single through the right side. After stealing second, sophomore DH Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) sent a two-run double to left center scoring Ruta and Mazzio.

After another hit from Capra, Harrold doubled to left center scoring Godino as Wagner now held a 13-4 lead. Once again, Cala took advantage of a first-pitch, sending a double to deep center field, allowing both Harrold and Capra to score. Cala later crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and the final score of the ballgame occurred when Mascelli singled to left field scoring Pecora from third base.
