Emmitsburg, MD – The Wagner baseball team erupted for 13 runs in the first three innings of Game 2 of today's doubleheader, propelling the Seahawks to a 14-6 victory over the Mountaineers.

With the win, the Seahawks improve to 7-9 on the season and 3-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while the Mountaineers have now lost four straight, falling to a 2-15 overall and 1-6 in league play.

Freshman first baseman Anthony Harrold (Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) went 3-for-5 with a career-best five RBIs, which included a three-run home run in the second inning. Junior SS Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) also had three hits in the second game of today's doubleheader. Freshman designated hitter Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) went 1-for-4 with four RBIs, three of which coming in the third inning when he crushed a three-run home run.

A pair of freshmen arms in starter Neil Abbatiello (North Salem, NY/Dobbs Ferry) and reliever Douglas Molnar (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) were sharp on the mound. Abbatiello tossed five innings, surrendering four runs (two earned) while walking two and striking out five batters. Molnar pitched the final two innings, giving up two runs and striking out one.

Mascelli and sophomore 3B Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]) reached base via a double to right center and a walk. With two-outs, Capra walked, giving Harrold a chance with the bases loaded. A full count to the first-year Seahawk, Harrold singled to right field, plating across both Mascelli and Mazzio giving Wagner a 2-0.

Abbatiello worked a scoreless first inning, inducing two groundball outs. In the top of the second, the Seahawks scored six runs on five hits with the big blast in the inning coming from Harrold, who smashed his second home run of the season over the right field fence as Wagner now led 8-0. In the bottom half of the frame, Abbatiello allowed a lead-off walk and a single to center field before settling down and getting Patrick Causa to fly out to center and striking out Zach Call to stop the Mountaineers threat.

The Wagner bats continued to remain hot as the visitors scored five times on five hits in their half of the third, highlighted by Capra's second home run of the year. In the bottom of the frame, the Mountaineers scored twice as Alex Kriss tripled to right center scoring Ryan Owens from second and Zach Hostetter grounded out to second base allowing Kriss to cross the plate.

Wagner was held scoreless in the fourth, but The Mount was able to chip into the Seahawks lead with two more runs in the bottom of the trailing 13-4. The Green & White tacked on its final run of the contest in the sixth as sophomore second baseman Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) singled to right field, scoring Harrold from second as he led off the sixth with a double.  The Mountaineers scored the game's final two runs in the bottom half of the sixth as Ryan Owens doubled to right center scoring Tanner Sampson from second. Kriss grounded out to third which brought in Chris Wessels for the Mountaineers' sixth run of the game.

The Seahawks will go for its first four-game sweep of a conference opponent since taking four straight over Central Connecticut (4-25-14 to 4-27-14) Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. start when they send senior LHP Matt Morris (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) to the mound. He is scheduled to be matched up against RHP Connor Graber.
