Brookville, NY – The Wagner women's fencing team concluded the 2016 calendar year with a meet at LIU Post, where the Seahawks competed against a total of five other schools.
Wagner won the Foil competition over host LIU Post, by a score of 5-3, as freshman
Rebecca Errickson (Annandale, NJ / North Hunterdon) swept the competition while graduate student
Kristen Hayes (Menands, NY / Shaker) won two out of three to give the Seahawks the victory.
Competing against fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) rival Fairleigh Dickinson, the Green and White tied 4-4 in the foil competition, while falling just short in the Epee match. Graduate student Tori McGrath (Delmar, NY / Bethlehem Catholic) won two decisions, while classmates Corinne Rondina (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) and
Michelle Detka (Buckeye, AZ / Verrado (University of Houston)) also picked up victories in a closely-contested 5-4 matchup.
The Seahawks were able to claim five points against NJIT, as Errickson and graduate student
Kristen Hayes (Menands, NY / Shaker) each won two foil competitions, while McGrath gave the Green and White one point in the Epee competition. Against Wellesley College, the Green and White garnered one point each from Errickson and Hayes, while picking up three points in the foil match against Drew University.
The Seahawks close out the regular season of their inaugural year with the FDU Invitational on February 11, 2017, before traveling to the NCAA Regional Championships in Easton, PA on March 11.
