New Britain, CT – The Wagner College swimming and diving team picked up a victory over Bryant, but fell to Central Connecticut at the CCSU Invitational this weekend in New Britain, CT.
The Seahawks defeated Bryant, 208-145, while falling to the host Central Connecticut Blue Devils, 221-132.
In the two-day event, the Green and White picked up three victories and ten second-place finishes. Wagner earned a first-place finish in the 400 Free Relay, as junior
Kirsty Hessing (Bloomington, IL / Normal Community) combined with newcomers
Kelsey Eastman (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley),
Makenna Depuydt (Santa Cruz, CA / Soquel), and
Emily Moore (Temecula, CA / Great Oak) touched the wall in 3:34.41.
Senior tri-captain
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI/Hawaii Preparatory Academy) garnered a victory in the 100 Back (56.19), while freshman
Kelli Boston (Roseville, CA/Woodcreek) picked up a victory in the 200 IM (2:10.10), finishing ahead of Moore (2:11.88), who also came in second in the 200 Free (1:56.09).
The Seahawks' 200 Free Relay came in second on the day, as Nihipali, Eastman, Depuydt and sophomore
Andrea Gustafsson (Malmo, Sweden/ProCivitas Privata Gymnasium) finished in 1:38.11, while the 400 Medley Relay team, consisting of Nihipali, Hessing, Gustafsson and senior
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/Troy High School), also came in second (3:54.35).
Nihipali also delivered a second-place finish the 100 Fly (58.81), while junior
Leahi Camacho (Kailua Kona, HI / Kealakene) touched second in the 200 Fly (2:09.70). Eastman garnered an additional second-place finish in the 50 Free, while McNichol came in second in the 1650 Free (17:54.17). Freshman Kaitlyn Mulcahy (Helmetta, NJ / Spotswood) earned second over the 400 IM distance, finishing in 4:39.69.
Hessing and Claesson rounded out the day with second-place finishes over the 100 Free (53.80) and 200 Breast (2:25.85).
On the diving board, junior
Sam Lavrich (Audubon, PA / Methacton) had the best result for the Seahawks, coming in fourth in the 3-Meter competition with 222.25 points.
The Seahawks will be back in action next weekend, as they take on Saint Francis U in a Northeast Conference dual meet on Saturday, November 12, starting at 1:00 PM.
