Men's Water Polo To Play Its Final Home Game Against Conference Rival Fordham

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner men's water polo team returns to Grymes Hill for its final home contest of its inaugural season tomorrow night, November 2, at 7:30 pm. The Seahawks will face Mid Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) rival Fordham University in the second game of the home-and-away series.

The rookie team defeated the Rams 11-10 in the first matchup held at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center on the campus of Fordham University. The Rams took an early 4-3 lead in the first stanza before trailing for the remainder of the game. Wagner seized control, when freshman driver Aaron Leighton (Lake Forest, CA/El Toro) won the second quarter sprint and junior utility Ciaran Wolohan (Manly Australia/St. Aloysius College/Golden West College) ignited a 3-0 run on a power play opportunity.

After recording ten saves in the first meeting, freshman goalie Joseph Ferraro and the Seahawks' defense will look to fend off Fordham sophomore Ian Watson who tallied a game-high six markers.

The Seahawks (8-17) are coming off a ten day break after traveling to the West Coast to compete in the competitive 15 team field, Santa Clara Rodeo. After falling to host team Santa Clara University, No. 9 UC Davis, and No. 20 Loyola Marymount University, Wagner topped Fresno Pacific University 10-6.

In their first-ever triumph over a California team, six different Seahawks scored against the Fresno Sunbirds. Freshman driver Oscar Nomura led the Green & White offensively with a team-high three goals in the first half while junior utility Ciaran Wolohan and freshman driver Matthew Miller (San Ramon, California/California High) added two goals apiece.

The Rams will be looking to defend two-time Rookie of the Week Honor Roll member Matthew Miller, who has had the hot hand for the Seahawks recently. The California native led the Green & White offensively with nine goals in the Santa Clara Rodeo, held just 35-miles from his hometown of San Ramon.

Wagner and Fordham are currently tied at fourth place in MAWPC standings with a 3-5 record. After their match-up on Staten Island, both teams will end the regular season in Lewisburg, PA against fellow MAWPC member, Bucknell University on Saturday, November 5.
