BRONX, N.Y. — The Wagner men's water polo team traveled to the Bronx on Friday night for a Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) showdown, where they fell to Fordham with a final score of 20-8 at the Messmore Aquatic Center.
The Rams' offense came out firing on their home pool, building a quick advantage. Junior
Landon Castillo and freshman
Noah Garrison each found the back of the net to get Wagner on the board, but the Seahawks trailed 2-7 after the first eight minutes.
Fordham continued its aggressive offensive output, outscoring the Seahawks 6-2 in the period. Sophomore
Kelly Murphy and sophomore
Nadav Carmon each had the opportunity to score a goal each. Despite head coach
Josh Hower calling a strategic timeout at the 3:27 mark to settle the squad, Wagner entered the halftime intermission facing a 4-13 deficit.
The Seahawks found their footing and matched the Rams goal-for-goal in a physical third quarter. The defense tightened up, and Wagner's attackers like senior
Vince Varga, Garrison, and sophomore
Toby Zeeck, capitalized on their opportunities, netting three goals to tie the quarter 3-3 and show their resilience in the face of a large deficit.
Despite Wagner's early possession, Fordham controlled the pace for the remainder of the game. Junior captain
Smith Connors added one final tally for the Seahawks in the fourth quarter, but the Rams' early lead proved too much to overcome before the buzzer sounded on the 20-8 defeat.
Goals: Garrison (2), Castillo, Murphy, Carmon, Connors, Varga, Zeeck
