Newark, NJ - The Wagner men's cross country team competed at the 13th Annual Technology XC Challenge, hosted by the NJIT Highlanders at Branch Brook Park on Saturday morning.
Five Seahawk harriers placed among the top ten in the NCAA D1 standings, as freshman
Liam Harris (Cork, Ireland/Kent School) took home top honors, with a time of 25:18.90.
For Harris, it marks the second first-place finish of his young career, after he took top honors at the 22nd Annual Monmouth University Invitational. Junior
Joseph Abbatiello (Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) crossed the finish line with a time of 25:56.98.
Among the other notable performances for the Seahawks at the Technology XC Challenge include freshman
Nick Velez (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea), who clocked in with a time of 26:42.62.
Freshman
Jonathan Besselink (Kingston, Ontario/Holy Cross Catholic Secondary) and sophomore
Matthew Whalen (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) finished ninth and tenth, respectively, as Besselink finished with a time of 26:53.28 and Whalen with a time of 26:56.99. Lastly, freshman
Alvin Sime (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) posted a time of 29:47.98.
The Seahawks will next be in action on October 21 as they head down to New Britain, CT for the CCSU Mini Meet.
