Staten Island, NY – The Wagner men's water polo team travels to Santa Clara, CA October 22-23 to compete in its first-ever West Coast tournament.
The four-day
Santa Clara Rodeo features 15 teams, who will play a combined 31 games, to be held on the campuses of both Santa Clara University and San Jose State University. Wagner is one of eight programs traveling from the East Coast to participate in the annual tournament. The rookie team (7-14) is scheduled to play four contests over the course of two days beginning with a matchup vs. host institution, Santa Clara.
The Green & White are set to play the Santa Clara Broncos on Saturday, October 22 at 11:40 a.m. (PST)/2:40 p.m. (EST). The Broncos are currently 6-9 after securing a 14-12 road victory over then No. 20 United States Air Force Academy on October 15. The Seahawks will look to stop senior driver Graham McClone, who registered a game-high five goals over Air Force.

The Seahawks enter the weekend after finishing the Harvard Invitational 1-2. The first-year team defeated its third local rival, Iona College
6-5 in a come-from-behind victory, in its second game of the tournament. Trailing 3-0 after the first quarter, Wagner held the Gaels scoreless in the second half behind nine saves from reigning Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Defensive Player of the Week, freshman goalie
Joseph Ferraro (Newport Beach, CA/Newport Harbor). Fellow rookie driver
Matthew Miller (San Ramon, CA/California High) recorded a game-high four tallies including the Seahawks' fifth and sixth goals of the contest early in the final stanza.
After upsetting Iona, which came on the heels of recent wins over St. Francis Brooklyn (12-11 on September 18) and Fordham (11-10 on October 13), the Seahawks were featured in a story that appeared on
TotalWaterpolo.com. The story, penned by Michael Randazzo, is entitled "Wagner Seahawks: Kings of New York Water Polo."

Three members of the Green & White earned
Mid Atlantic Water Polo Conference weekly honors after the Seahawks secured victories over its second and third local New York teams. In addition to Ferraro, who was named Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks after amassing 36 saves in four games, junior utility
Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia/St. Aloysius College/Golden West College) landed himself on the Player of the Week Honor Roll for the third time this season. The third Seahawk to be honored this week was Miller, who was named to the Rookie of the Week Honor Roll after a breakout performance against Iona.
"Everything we do is a learning experience to prepare us for the conference tournament at end of the season," noted Wagner head coach
Chris Radmonovich. "We've been playing quality opponents on the East Coast, and now I'm excited to test our skills on the West Coast."
After facing host institution Santa Clara, Wagner will challenge the University of California Davis at 3:40 pm (PST)/6:40 p.m. (EST) before closing out play on Sunday, October 23 against Loyola Marymount University (12:00 pm) and Fresno Pacific University (4:00 pm).
