Wagner 13 Johns Hopkins 11
The Green & White defeated its first conference rival, Division III No. 8 Johns Hopkins University 13-11 behind five goals from
Walsh Electric's Male Student-Athlete of the Month, junior utility
Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia/St. Aloysius College/Golden West College).
The Seahawks took an early 2-0 lead in front of a strong home crowd with goals from sophomore utility
Devin O'Donnell (Pointe-Claire, Quebec/Selwyn/San Diego Mesa College) and junior driver
James Grady (Boca Raton, FL/Boca Raton). However, the Blue Jays answered with two tallies to ignite a back-and-forth contest.
The two teams ended the first half in a 6-6 deadlock with one goal from freshman driver
Oscar Nomura (Irvine, CA/Irvine) and two from Wolohan.
Despite back-to-back goals from freshman driver
Aaron Leighton (Lake Forest, CA/El Toro) and Nomura to tie up the contest 8-8 halfway through the third stanza, Hopkins outscored the Seahawks 4-2 to end the period ahead 10-8.
The Green & White, down by a count of 11-8 early in the fourth quarter netted four consecutive goals to upset the Blue Jays. Nomura and Wolohan each took advantage of power play opportunities, firing back-to-back markers. Freshmen driver
Matthew Miller (San Ramon, CA/California High) followed suit by draining his first goal of the game on an assist from Nomura to tie the tilt 11-11.
Captain Wolohan drilled two more into the back of the net to give the Seahawks their first conference victory, upsetting Johns Hopkins 13-11.
Wagner 11 Bucknell 13
Despite holding Bucknell's lead scorer, Rade Joksimovic, to only two goals and a double hat-trick from freshman driver
Oscar Nomura, No. 10 Bucknell University defeated Wagner 13-11 in a hard fought matchup.
The Bison's defense had a tough time guarding Nomura who was unstoppable from the very beginning after scoring the first goal of the game less than two minutes into the first quarter. However, the Bison immediately netted three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead over the Green & White.
The Seahawks turned around another two markers from Nomura and junior driver
James Grady (Boca Raton, FL/Boca Raton) to tie the game at 3-3. From then on, it was a back-and-forth contest with no team leading by more than one until the final three minutes of the third quarter.
Freshman driver
Matthew Miller (San Ramon, CA/California High) drained his lone goal of the contest early in the second quarter to tie the match 6-6. After a timeout call by head water polo coach
Chris Radmonovich, Nomura netted his fourth goal to give Wagner its first lead. However, reigning CWPA Player and Rookie of the Week, Rade Joksimovic tallied his second goal with six seconds left to give the Bison an 8-7 lead entering the second half.
Bucknell held Nomura scoreless in the third quarter, but the Seahawks ended the stanza trailing 10-9 with two goals from
Walsh Electric's Male Student-Athlete of the Month,
Ciaran Wolohan.
In the final quarter, Nomura found the back of the net twice more to break a Wagner men's water polo record, netting six goals in one game. The previous record was held by Wolohan when he recorded five against MIT on September 3.
Despite a hat-trick from Wolohan and six goals from Nomura, the Seahawks (4-11) were handed their fourth conference loss of the season by the Bucknell Bison.
