Meet ResultsBrooklyn, NY – The Wagner women's swimming & diving team swam to a 166-88 win over the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds Friday evening while breaking four pool records in the process.
The Seahawks took home first-place honors in 11 of 14 events in improving to 7-3 on the season while remaining undefeated against Northeast Conference (NEC) competition.
The 200 Medley team of
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI/Hawaii Preparatory Academy),
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/Troy),
Michele Detka (Buckeye, AZ/Verrado [University of Houston]), and
Dorian McMenemy (Northborough, MA/Algonquin Regional) started the meet off by claiming first place in a pool record time of 1:46.85.
Senior
Maggie Shaw (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) swept both of her individual events of the evening. The freestyler took the 1,000 Free in a pool record time of 10:43.55 and also the 500 Free, touching the wall in a time of 5:17.17.
Nihipali and Claesson were also two-event winners as Nihipali swept the 100 Back with a pool record (58.42) and the 100 Free (53.63). Claesson finished first in the 100 Breaststroke, recording a time of 1:06.91, before finishing the meet with a pool-record and first-place finish in the 200 Breaststroke (2:25.99).
Senior
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/Easthampton) joined Shaw, Nihipali and Claesson as a two-event winner, sweeping the Butterfly events, posting times of 2:10.02 in the 200 Fly, and 59.66 in the 100 Fly.
Other Wagner winners included sophomores
Maddie McNichol (Downingtown, PA/Henderson) in the 200 Free (1:58.25) and
Leahi Camacho (Kailua Kona, HI/Kealakene) in the 200 IM (2:13.73). McNichol also earned a second-place finish in the 500 Free with a time of 5:17.92 while Camacho took second overall in the 1,000 Free, posting a time of 10:48.59.
Sophomore
Kirsty Hessing (Bloomington, IL/Normal Community) took second place in the 200 Free (1:59.14) and third in the 100 Free with a 54.11. Senior
Erin Malone (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) picked up a pair of second-place finishes, in the 200 Fly and 200 Back ,in times of 2:15.09, and 2:10.79, respectively.
The Seahawks return to competition next weekend as Wagner hosts NEC rival Central Connecticut on Saturday, February 6, at the Spiro Sports Center. The meet is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
