Freshly returning from a week-long training trip to Delray Beach, Florida where the Seahawk squad faced the highest intensity training thus far in the 2015-16 season, head coach
Colin Shannahan confirmed his team is responded well to the training and are prepared for the second half of the season, beginning with a tough contest against the Rams tomorrow at the Spiro Sports Center.
Looking into the URI vs. Wagner series history, the Rams have had a long history of pulling out close meets. Two years ago during the 2013-14 season, the Seahawks defeated the Rams 167-133 on Grymes Hill for the first time in Wagner program history. Last season, the squad traveled to Kingston, RI, where the Seahawks swam to a 150-150 tie against the Rams.
The Seahawks are off to impressive start of the 2015-16 campaign, posting a 5-2 record on the first half of the season. Leading the Seahawks are junior's
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI/Hawaii Preparatory Academy),
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/Troy) and senior
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/Easthampton).
The trio of Seahawks
competed at the 2015 AT&T U.S. Winter Nationals in Federal Way, WA in December. Nihipali concluded the meet qualifying for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, the first swimmer to do so in Wagner program history.
