Fairfield, CT – The Wager men's cross country team claimed third at the Fr. Victor F. Leeber, S.J. Invitational with 66 points.
Sacred Heart and host institution Fairfield tied with 30 points but Sacred Heart was declared the team champion on a tiebreaker. The Pioneers Sean Ferguson captured the individual crown as he completed the 8K course in a time of 26:27.99.
The Seahawks were paced by sophomore
Joseph Abbatiello (Fredericksburg, VA/ Stafford) who crossed the finish line at 27:45.83 to secure a top 10 finish.
Sophomore
Jack Schnorbus (Haymarket, VA/ Battlefield), junior
Darius Moulton (Brisbane, Australia/ St. Joseph Gregorys Terrace), and freshman
Matthew Whalen (Smithtown, NY/ Smithtown East) all placed within the top 15. Schnorbus led the charge of the trio with a time of 28:37.57 and an 11th place finish while Moutlon claimed 13th with a mark of 28:42.28 and Whalen notched 15th with a time of 28:56.21.
Rounding out the Green & White was freshman
Dan Ziebarth (Beaver Dam, WI/ Beaver Dam) who finished 18th with a mark of 29:41.77.
The Seahawks next compete at the Metropolitan Championships on October 9th.
