Lawrenceville, NJ – The Wagner women's tennis team picked up its second straight victory of the fall season on Wednesday as the Seahawks prevailed over the Rider University Broncs, 6-1.  The victory extended the Seahawks' win streak over the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) school to six straight wins, last suffering a defeat to the Broncs back in 2011.

"I am very pleased with the performance of our team over the last two matches," commented second-year head coach Adrienn Hidvegi. "Rider is a gritty, much-improved squad and we were able to remain focused at the task at hand and pick up the victory."

Wagner (2-0) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Rider by grabbing the doubles point with identical 6-2 victories in all three matches.

In singles action, senior Marina Rull Valvieso (Barcelona, Spain/IES Anthony Cumella [Tarleton State]) picked up a 6-1; 6-1 decision over Caitlin Gardner in No. 1 singles for her 11th career singles victory at Wagner.

Newcomers Rina Baynes (Johns Creek, GA/Chattahoochee) and junior transfer Avika Sagwal (New Delhi, India/Delhi Public High School [Southeastern Louisiana]) each improved to 2-0 on the season as Baynes bested Danielle Scrudato in No. 3 singles (6-3; 6-0) while Sagwal claimed her second consecutive straight-set victory in No. 4 singles defeating Aleesha Rouse.

Sophomore Carolyn Gibson (Windermere, FL/IMG Academy) outlasted her counterpart, Kelli Swanson, 4-6; 6-1; 10-5 in No. 5 singles while junior Madison Pautsch (Costa Mesa, CA/Edison) downed Montana Morris, 6-3; 6-3 in No. 6.

The ladies will return to the court on Friday and Saturday, September 18-19, as they will compete in the two-day Hofstra University Invitational out on Long Island.
