Photography by Dave SaffranResultsWilliamsburg, VA – The Wagner track & field teams wrapped up the first day of competition at the prestigious 50th annual Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary. The men's team sits in 24th of 39 institutions after scoring 10.5 points while the women's team didn't garner any scores on the first day of competition.
Men's Highlights Senior sprinter
Saquan Mitchell (Newark, NJ/ Central) was one of the meet standouts as he posted the quickest time in the 100m preliminaries with an IC4A qualifying mark of 10.68. Mitchell dashed ahead of 60 competitors to take the top seed into tomorrow's final.
The New Jersey native also picked up a point for the Seahawks as he claimed eighth in the 200m event as he bested 75 competitors with a time of 21.84 seconds which put him in striking distance of the current Green & White 200m record held by Coleman Edmond. Edmond has held the record since 2008 when he registered a time of 21.63.
Senior
Matthew Kane (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) grabbed five points for Wagner as he cleared 1.99m in the high jump to place fourth out of a field of 22 entrants.
Junior
Darius Moulton (Brisbane, Australia/ St. Josephs Gregory Terrace) raced to an impressive time in the 800m as he crossed the finish line in 1:55.71 to claim 19th of 44 competitors.
Mitchell's high school teammate,
Dante Fernandez (Newark, NJ/ Central) recorded a mark of 15:05 in the 110m hurdles to place 21st of 51 entrants.
Freshman
Quincy Rasin (New Bern, NC/ New Bern) sprinted to a 47th place finish in the 400m event with a time of 51.41.
Senior
James Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/ North Rockland) competed in the steeplechase for the first time this season as he registered a time of 9:49.40 which placed him 26th of the 41 competitors entered into the event.
Senior distance runner
Jacob Malakoff (Tasmania, Australia/ Friends) nabbed a point for the Green & White after placing eighth of 37 competitors in the 10k as he crossed the finish line in 31:56.50.
Women's HighlightsSenior middle distance runner
Emily Pereira (Howell, NJ/ Freehold Township) finished 18th of 44 entrants in the 800m as she crossed the finish line in 2:15.00.
Senior sprinter
Imani Jones (Roselle, NJ/ Abraham Clark) competed in both the 200m and the 100m preliminaries. The Garden State native finished 29th of 106 competitors in the 200m as she recorded a mark of 25.48 and 47th in the 100m preliminaries with a time of 12.97 seconds.
Lorraine Brancale (Staten Island, NY/ St. Joseph Hill/ NYU) placed 34th of the 55 competitors in the 1500m seeded race as she registered a time of 4:42.91.
Sophomore distance runners
Nicole Bell (Branchville, NJ/ Sussex County Technical) and senior
Victoria Spector (Yaphank, NY/ Longwood) each had strong days as Bell claimed 10th in the 10k with a time of 39:16.63 and Spector placed 15th in the 1500m after recording a time of 4:53.34.
The Green & White are back in action tomorrow.
