New Britain, CT – The Wagner women's lacrosse team dropped a 9-7 decision in the regular season finale at Central Connecticut today but the loss had no impact on the league standings as the Seahawks earned the No. 2 seed in the 2015 Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship that will take place next weekend at Bryant University.

Despite dropping a 9-8 overtime decision today to Mount St. Mary's,  Bryant enters the NEC Championship as the No. 1 seed for the second straight season with a conference mark of 6-1. Wagner and the Mount finished with identical 5-2 records but the Seahawks gain the No. 2 seed by virtue of its 13-7 win over the Mountaineers back on April 3.

The Mount will be the No. 3 seed while Robert Morris, on the strength of its 12-4 victory in a must-win game at LIU Brooklyn today, secured the No. 4 seed. On Friday, May 1, No. 2 Wagner will meet No. 3 Mount St. Mary's in one semifinal matchup with No. 1 Bryant hosingt No. 4 Robert Morris in the other.

The winners of Friday's semifinal contest will clash in the 2015 NEC Championship Game on Sunday, May 3 at Bryant. Last season, the Seahawks earned a 17-7 semifinal win over No. 4 Robert Morris before falling to No. 1 Bryant by a 14-6 count in the title game.

Today's loss at Central Connecticut marks the first time that Wagner has dropped an NEC game to a team other than Bryant in the two-year Liz Frisoli era. On April 4, 2014, the Bulldogs survived a 7-6, double-overtime contest at Wagner. After reeling off 11 consecutive regular season league wins, spanning the last two seasons, Wagner fell 8-4 at Bryant on Friday.

Wagner will enter the NEC Championship with an overall record of 8-9. In today's meeting with CCSU, who was fresh off an impressive 9-8 win over Mount St. Mary's, the Seahawks fought back from an early 3-1 deficit to take a 7-5 second-half lead before the Blue Devils scored four unanswered goals in posting the 9-7 win.

Senior midfielder Jessica Mills (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) recorded a hat trick to pace the Seahawks offensively while sophomore attack Olivia Streilein (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) banged home two goals. Also finishing with two points for Wagner was junior midfielder Shea Gegan (Belmar, NJ/Manasquan) who tallied one goal while assisting on another.

The national leader in both ground balls and turnovers per game, Gegan also registered five ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers on the afternoon. Junior attackers Taylor Pastore (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and Kimmy Tumolo (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview) rounded out the Seahawk scoring by notching goal and one assist, respectively. In goal, junior Katie Ferraro (Ownings Mill, MD/McDonogh) was credited with 10 saves.

The Blue Devils were led by Falynn McCartney's four points (2G, 2A). Registering two points each for CCSU were Madison Hughes and Marissa Soto who scored two goals apiece with Hughes also recording game highs with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers, respectively. Goalie Morgan Tullar.
