Seahawks Drop Pair To Mount St. Mary's On Senior Day

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College softball team concluded the 2015 season with two Northeast Conference (NEC) losses to Mount St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon by scores of 4-3 and 6-2.

In game one, Wagner and Mount St. Mary's remained scoreless until the sixth inning when the Seahawks posted three runs to take the lead before the Mountaineers responded with a grand slam in the top of the seventh in recording the 4-3 comeback win.
 
Wagner put up six hits in the contest. Sophomore centerfielder Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) was 2-for-4, while senior first baseman Beth Lewis (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) and sophomore third baseman Aerika High (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) were each 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Sophomore pitcher McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk. Lewis singled to put runners on first and second before High doubled to left center, scoring freshman Maddie Marable (Reno, NV/Earl Wooster), who pinch-ran for Goodale and Lewis, to make it 2-0. High then advanced to third on a passed ball and was plated on an error by the pitcher as Wagner went on top 3-0.
 
After loading the bases in the top of the seventh, Mount St. Mary's Rachel Heinze hit a grand slam to take the 4-3 lead which would be the final score of game one.
 
Goodale suffered the heartbreaking loss (4-11) giving up four runs on seven hits with one strik out. Danni Cummings (4-8) picked up the win for the Mountaineers.

In game two, the Seahawks got on the board first but were unable to add to it as Mount St. Mary's posted six unanswered runs over the course of three innings en route to the 6-2 victory.

Wagner recorded eight hits during the contest. Lewis was 2-for-4 with one RBI with a run scored. Senior shortstop Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/Lynnwood) was also 2-for-4 with a run scored while junior catcher Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

The other Seahawk hits came from Tredway, sophomore right fielder Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA/Valley Center) and the designated player, Taylor Beeson (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain), who each had one hit apiece.
 
In the circle, Bedker took the loss (2-12) after striking out four batters while scattering four hits. Marian Ruf posted the win after allowing seven hits.
 
In the bottom of the third inning, Parker started the Seahawks with a single to left center. Lewis tripled down the right field line to score Parker. Lewis would then score from a single to the shortstop from Bott.
 
Mount St. Mary's gained momentum in the top of the fourth and put up two runs, and then added another two in the fourth and the fifth inning to secure the 6-2 victory over the Seahawks.

The Seahawks finish the season 9-25 overall and and 1-15 in conference play.
