Softball Hits The Road For A Pair of NEC Doubleheaders This Weekend

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner softball team is back on the road for another full weekend of Northeast Conference (NEC) play as they travel to Saint Francis U. for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18, followed by a twinbill with Robert Morris on Sunday, April 19.
 
Last Time Out
The Seahawks are coming off of a weekend where they dropped two contests against conference leader CCSU, 1-0 and 3-0, respectively, followed by another two losses against Sacred Heart, 4-3 and 2-1. Sophomore McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/ Lakewood Ranch) was impressive in the circle, pitching three complete games with nine strike outs, while going a combined 3-for-6 at the plate against Laura Messina, who currently leads NCAA Division I pitchers with 11 shutouts and is ranked third overall in the country in ERA. Junior catcher Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA/ Fountain Valley) went a combined 4-for-6 with two RBI in the doubleheader vs. Sacred Heart. In the second game, she went a perfect 3-for-3.
 
Scouting the Seahawks 
Senior shortstop Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/Lynnwood) leads the Seahawks at the plate. The standout shortstop is hitting .354 while also leading the team with 28 hits and tied for first with four home runs on the season.

Sophomore Aerika High (Manheim, PA/ Manheim Central) is carrying a .281 batting average while tied with Parker for a team best .544 slugging percentage and four home runs on the season.

Player to Watch: Alexis Bower

Sophomore infielder Alexis Bower powered the Red Flash last weekend through two NEC doubleheaders to garner NEC Player of the Week honors. Bower went an impressive 7-for-9 (.778) with a home run and seven RBIs to sweep Mount St. Mary's. Against Mount St. Mary's the sophomore was a perfect 4-for-4 and then went 3-for-5 with a double and a home run while driving in six runs. She currently is batting .320 which is good enough for second on the team overall while Taylor Parsons leads the Red Flash in that category with a .364 batting average.

The Red Flash were tabbed to finish sixth in the NEC preseason poll. With its current 4-2 NEC record, Saint Francis U is tied for third place with LIU Brooklyn.
