Box Score 2 (XML)Pictured Above: McKaleigh Goodale (photo by Jason Roberts)Staten Island, NY – The Wagner softball team dropped a 1-0 decision to Central Connecticut in game one of today's Northeast Conference (NEC) doubleheader before falling again to the Blue Devils, 3-0, in the nightcap.
The Seahawks are now 9-17 on the season and 1-7 in conference play, while the Blue Devils improve to 19-7 on the season and remain undefeated at 6-0 in the NEC.
Right-hander
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) pitched well while going the distance in both games, falling to 4-7 on the season, despite putting in 14 innings of work. The sophomore struck out one batter in each contest while allowing just 12 hits combined in the two complete games.
CCSU senior pitcher Laura Messina, who entered today's play ranked No.4 in the nation with a 1.01 ERA, also hurled two complete games, giving up a combined eight hits while striking out 16 batters in 14 innings pitched.
Game One Recap: CCSU 1 Wagner 0Box Score (PDF) In game one, Goodale tossed three scoreless innings before CCSU took advantage of a passed ball in the fourth inning, plating Hannah Cooper who was on third, which would end up being the lone run scored.
Strong Seahawk defense stopped the Blue Devils from scoring again. In the top of the sixth, CCSU's Tori Constantin singled up the middle, which was followed by an Evie Rentzel single to left field to put runners on first and second with one out. Senior shortstop
Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/Lynnwood) turned a beautiful 6-4-3 double play to get out of the inning, collecting a ground ball and connecting with sophomore second baseman
Taylor Beeson (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain), who then threw on to freshman first baseman
Maddie Marable (Reno, NV/Earl Wooster).

Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA/Valley Center) recorded the only two hits for the Seahawks.
Central Connecticut had seven hits total as Brittany Camara went 2-for-4, while Constantin was 2-for-3.

Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) were both 2-for-3 while senior
Beth Lewis (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge), the designated player, and sophomore centerfielder
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) each notched a hit as well.
Central Connecticut took an early 2-0 in the second inning behind back-to-back solo home runs by Constantin and Rentzel.
In the third inning, the Blue Devils' Ashley Black came around to score from second base on a Seahawk error and wild throw to Bott at home plate, expanding their lead to 3-0.
The Seahawls threatened in the fourth, opening the inning with consecutive singles by Bott and Goodale to put runners on first and second. Lewis flied out to right for the first out. Messina then struck out sophomore third baseman
Aerika High (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) before getting Gilbert to ground out back to the mound, ending the inning.
The Green & White return to action on Sunday when they travel to Fairfield, CT to meet Sacred Heart in another NEC doubleheader with game one set to start at Noon.
