Softball To Host NEC Doubleheader vs. Central Connecticut Today At 1:00 PM

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team heads into an important Northeast Conference (NEC) weekend, beginning with a home doubleheader this afternoon vs. conference-leading Central Connecticut, followed by a doubleheader on Sunday at Sacred Heart.
 
The 9-15 Seahawks host the 17-7 Blue Devils at 1:00 pm on Grymes Hill on Saturday. The Green & White then travel to Fairfield, CT for a 12:00 pm doubleheader Sacred Heart on Sunday.
 
Wagner is coming off of Wednesday's doubleheader split at Iona, and will be playing its first conference game since April 4 when the Seahawks split a twinbill with Bryant.
 
Senior shortstop Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/ Lynnwood), the NEC Player of the Week for the week ending March 2, leads the team with 26 hits on the season, is tied for the team lead with four home runs, while ranking second on the squad with a .603 slugging percentage.
 
Sophomore third baseman Aerika High (Manheim, PA/ Manheim Central) is also wielding a hot bat, sharing team-high honors in round-trippers with Parker (four) and leads the Seahawks with a .630 slugging percentage.

Player to Watch: Senior pitcher Laura Messina
 
Messina has led the Blue Devils to their current six-game winning streak and unfeated 4-0 conference record. The senior is currently ranked No. 4 in the country with a 1.01 ERA, trailing the nation's leader from UCF, Shelby Turnier (.72 ERA), Blaire Lauthers from NEC rival Saint Francis U (.86 ERA), and Miranda Kramer from Western Kentucky (1.00 ERA). The right-hander has been named NEC Pitcher of the Week on three occasions this season, as well as earning a pair of ECAC Pitcher of the Week honors..
 
The Marlton, NJ native has pitched 15 complete games on the year with a total of 150 strikeouts. She led the Blue Devils to a 3-0 record last week, including two shutouts and 39 strikouts, while allowing just a .127 batting average.
