Photo by Jason Roberts)Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College softball team snapped its four-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep over Saint Peter's University, by scores of 8-3 and 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play.
Following the two wins over their counterparts from the MAAC, the Seahawks improve to 7-12 on the season.
Game 1 I Box Score (PDF) In the first game, Wagner took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a single up the middle by sophomore
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/ Lakewood Ranch), who played designated player, which scored sophomore second baseman
Taylor Beeson (Mesa, AZ/ Red Mountain).
The Peacocks answered in the very next inning with back-to-back solo home runs to take a 2-1 lead.
The Seahawks then pushed across two runs in each of the second and third innings in taking a 5-2 lead and never looked back, tacking on one run in the fifth, and another two in the sixth, to secure the 8-3 victory.
Beeson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.
Senior first baseman
Beth Lewis (Ashburn, VA/ Stone Bridge) notched her first home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth, followed by senior shortstop
Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/ Lynnwood) blasting her fourth home run of the season in the sixth, scoring freshman right fielder
Maite Reece (Covina, CA/ Gabrielino).

Laura Petri (Warminster, PA/ William Tenant), and sophomore third baseman
Aerika High (Manheim, PA/ Manheim Central) each added base hits to Wagner's eight-hit attack.
In the circle, senior
Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ/ Sandra Day O'Connor) recorded her second win of the season while striking out five batters and allowing just three runs in five innings pitched before being relieved by sophomore
Gina Massaro (Levittown, PA/ Conwell-Egan Catholic).
Game 2 I Box Score (PDF) Wagner received a strong outing by freshman pitcher
Morgan Brown (Buckeye, AZ/ Verrado), who recorded her first career shutout, with six strikeouts while tossing a five-hitter.
Reece led things off for the Seahawks in the first inning with a single to right field. She would reach third base on a throwing error Beeson's bunt to the pitcher. The freshman then scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch to give Wagner a 1-0 lead.
That's the way the score remained until the bottom of the fifth, Beeson doubled with two outs, then reached third on a single from Parker and came around to score on an error as Wagner took a 2-0 lead, which would be the final score.
Beeson was 3-for-6 on the day with three RBIs and two runs scored.
The Green & White return to Northeast Conference play on Friday, April 3 when they host the Bryant Bulldogs in a doubleheader with first pitch of game 1 set for 1:00 p.m.
