Kraft Field.
Though their 2-6 record might suggest otherwise, the Seahawks are playing a competitive brand of lacrosse and enter tonight's contest on a four-game losing streak, with all four losses having come by one-goal margins.
The most recent defeat came on March 18 vs. Iona when the Green & White staged a furiously late rally, going on a 5-0 run, before winding up on the short end of an 11-10 decision.
Columbia is 2-5 on the season and 1-2 in Ivy League play. On March 21, the Lions earned a 5-3 victory over Yale. The Lions are 13-0 in the all-time series facing the Seahawks. These teams last met in 2009 with Columbia taking the road victory, 11-7.
Junior midfielder
Gretchen Fay (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts vs. Iona, where she recorded career highs with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers, while scoring one goal and adding a pair of draw controls. Fellow junior midfielder
Shea Gegan (Belmar, NJ/Manasquan), the 2014 Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Year and Fay's former high school teammate, tossed in four goals and assisted on another to lead the way offensively for the Seahawks vs. Iona.
Freshman attack
Heidi Colford (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Praire) provided Wagner with a huge offensive spark down the stretch, recording the first three points of her young career, on two goals and one assist, all coming during the Seahawks' well-executed 5-0 late second-half run. Junior attack
Stephanie Peterson (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) also supplied two goals for the Seahawks while junior attack
Taylor Pastore (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and junior midfielder Gegan, who ranks No. 1 in the nation in caused turnover per game (3.38), and No. 8 nationally in ground balls per game (3.38), added two ground balls and two caused turnovers, along with one draw control, vs. the Gaels.
In addition to pacing the Seahawks in caused turnovers and ground balls with 27 each, the 5-10 Gegan is Wagner's team-leader in goals (18), assists (12), and points (30), and is third on the team with nine draw controls.
For the season, Fay is No. 2 on the team in ground balls (21), and draw controls (10), and tied for second in caused turnovers with 14. Offensively, the versatile 5'6" Fay is No. 2 on the Seahawks in goals (15) and No. 3 in points (15).
As a sophomore in 2014, Fay Finished third in the NEC in caused turnovers per game (1.56), and was in the top three on the team in three major statistical categories, ground balls (36), caused turnovers (28), and draw controls (17). She capped her season by being named to the NEC All-Tournament Team after helping lead the Seahawks to their first-ever appearance in the league's championship game.
Junior goalie
Katie Ferraro (Owings Mill, MD/McDonogh) is ranked No. 3 in the nation in saves per game (10.38), ninth in save percentage (.494) and 13
th in total saves (83), all figures that are tops in the NEC.
