NEC PRESS RELEASE I 2015 SCHEDULE I READ ABOUT TEAM'S RECENT TRIP TO THE TODAY SHOW

Staten Island, NY The Wagner College women's lacrosse team looks to return to its winning ways when the Seahawks host the Iona College Gaels at Hameline Field in a 3:00 p.m. start today.

In a contest that was played in a thick fog on a damp, chilly day on Grymes Hill last Saturday,  the hard-luck Seahawks dropped their third consecutive one-goal game as George Mason eked out an 11-10 win. This defeat came on the heels of a 10-9 home loss to Temple (3/4), which was preceded by a 13-12 double-overtime loss at Saint Joseph's (3/2).

Trailing 10-7 late in the second half, Wagner erupted for three straight goals in a span of 2:44 in tying the game at 10-10, before George Mason's Alexa McGovern tallied the game-winner with 31 seconds remaining.

The Green & White are 2-5 on the season while Iona enters today's matchup with a 3-4 mark. The Gaels have faced two NEC opponents this season and own a 15-5 season-opening road win over Sacred Heart and a 10-8 home loss to Central Connecticut. Last time out, Iona dropped a 19-5 decision at Albany.

Against George Mason on Saturday, Wagner received balanced scoring with two goals apiece coming from junior midfielders Shea Gegan (Belmar, NJ/Manasquan) and Gretchen Fay (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan), as well as junior attack Taylor Pastore (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker). Gegan, the 2014 Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Year and current NCAA leader in caused turnovers per game, also dished out two assists in amassing a team-high four points. Fay was also active throughout in registering a game-high six draw controls.

Sophomore attack Olivia Streilein (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) added three points (1G, 2A), junior attack Kimmy Tumolo (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview) wound up with two points (1G, 1A), while fellow junior attackers Tori McGrath (Albany, NY/Bethlehem Central) and Stephanie Peterson (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) chipped in with one point each on an assist and a goal, respectively.

Gegan enters today's game ranked No. 1 in the nation in caused turnovers per game (3.71) and No. 3 nationally in ground balls per game (3.57), with both figures also ranking tops in the Northeast Conference (NEC). The 2014 NEC Defensive Player of the Year, Gegan also ranks No. 3 in the nEC in assists per game (1.57) and No. 8 in points per game (3.57).

In addition to pacing the Seahawks in caused turnovers and ground balls with 25 each, the 5-10 Gegan is Wagner's team-leader in goals (14), assists (11), and points (25), and is tied for second on team with eight draw controls.

Junior goalie Katie Ferraro (Owings Mill, MD/McDonugh) is ranked eighth in the nation in both total saves (71) and saves per game (10.33), which rank No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the NEC. Ferraro also leads the conference with a 0.490 save percentage, a figure that ranks No. 22 nationally.
