Women's Water Polo

Water Polo Falls 10-5 To #8 Hawaii

Score Sheet

San Diego, CA – The #17 Wagner (12-5) women's water polo team fell 10-5 to #8 Hawaii (9-5) in their second game of the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State. The Seahawks defeated San Diego State 10-9 in an overtime thriller earlier in the day as their California series record now stands at 6-3.

The Seahawks found themselves down early as the Rainbow Wahine started the game on a 4-0 run. Wagner found the back of the net with 3:22 left in the first period as freshman Elise Begg (Newbury Park, CA/ Newbury) tallied the first score for the Green & White off an assist from fellow Californian Michelle Greenough (Davis, CA/ Davis). Begg rattled the cage less than one minute later as she took advantage of the man-up opportunity as she was set up by junior center Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia/ Mountain Creek). Hawaii sophomore Chloe Barr added the fifth goal of the first stanza for the Rainbow Wahine as they led Wagner 5-2 after one.

Hawaii controlled possession in the second quarter as it outscored the Seahawks 2-0 to take a 7-2 lead into halftime.

The Seahawks cut significantly into the lead as they rallied off the first three goals of the third period to cut the deficit to two with the score 7-5. Freshman Kimberly Watson (Pointe-Claire, Quebec/ John Rennie) scored the first while Lundgren ripped the next two scores.

Hawaii would go onto score the next three goals of the contest to hand Wagner the 10-5 loss.

Tomorrow the Seahawks will conclude their California tour as they finish the Aztec Invitational with games against #20(T) UC San Diego and a rematch with Whittier.
