Box Score (XML) vs. Georgetown - Game 1 I Box Score (PDF) Fairfax, VA – The Wagner softball team dropped a pair of games on the first day of the George Mason University Cherry Blossom Classic on Friday, falling to Big East member Georgetown 2-0 in the opener before being outscored by MAC member Akron, 5-1, in the afternoon cap.
The Hoyas plated single runs in the first and third inning during their Game 1 victory while senior right-hander Megan Hyson (7-4) tossed a five-hitter with eight strikeouts in earning the shutout victory. The Seahawks' senior righty
Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ / Sandra Day O'Connor) also allowed just five hits in a route-going performance, while striking out four with just one walk in the process, as her season mark falls to 0-4.
Senior shortstop
Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/Lynnwood) turned in two tremendous first-inning defensive plays to thwart what had the makings of a big first inning rally by Georgetown. After ranging deep to her left in making a difficult backhanded stab, followed by a strong throw to senior first baseman
Beth Lewis (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge), Parker made a tough, running catch in shallow left field to end the inning.
At the plate, Parker supplied two of Wagner's five hits, while junior catcher
Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley), sophomore pitcher
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch), and freshman left fielder
Laura Petri (Warminster, PA/William Tenant) contributed one base hit apiece.

In the second game of the afternoon, Akron struck first, scoring three first-inning runs. Kellie Roudabush got the rally started with a single to left field before Chelsea Wildey reached on an error and they both came around to score when cleanup hitter Alyssa Nicholas belted a three-run home run.
That's the way things stood until the fourth inning when Parker hit a laser for a solo home run, the lone hit of the game for the Seahawks, which made it a 3-1 game before the Zips tacked on two runs in the fifth inning to compete the day's scoring.
Righty Erin Seiler's one-hitter was a dominant effort that featured 13 strikeouts as the junior moved her record to 9-6 on the season,
Sophomore center fielder
Brianna Tredway (Downington, PA/Downington West) turned in the defensive play of the game for the Seahawks in the fourth inning where she chased down a fly ball near the wall, before delivering a rocket to freshman catcher
Drew Duffy (Phoenix, AZ/Centennial). Duffy would throw down to sophomore third baseman
Aerika High (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) to double up the Zips' base runner who had failed to tag up.
The Cherry Blossom Classic continues on Saturday for the Seahawks, who are now 4-8 on the season, when they again face Georgetown in a 12:45 p.m. start. This will mark the rubber game between the teams this season as Wagner blanked the Hoyas 2-0 on March 7 in the USF Under Armour Classic in Clearwater, FL. In tomorrow's second game, the Seahawks will face host George Mason in a contest that is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
