Fresno, CA – A two-out, two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh proved to be the difference as Wagner fell to Fresno State, 4-2, on Wednesday evening from Beiden Field.
With the loss, the Seahawks have dropped their last four contests as they fall to 0-6-1 on the season while the Bulldogs are 8-9 on the season.
Wagner's sophomore shortstop
Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) recorded his first three-hit performance of the season as he finished 3-for-4 with a run scored. Senior first baseman
Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville) rocketed the first homerun of the season for the Seahawks in the top half of the sixth inning.
Fresno State got on the board first as Kevin Viers doubled to right center field off starter
Nick Pavia (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's by the Sea). Manny Argomaniz took the full count offering and laced a double to left field, scoring Viers on the play. Joe Prior lofted a deep fly out that scored Argomaniz from third.
The Green & White launched their first round-tripper of the season as Mazurkiewicz homered to left field on the first pitch of the sequence to cut the deficit in half. After
Ben Ruta singled through the right side on a 2-0 pitch,
Nick Dini also singled to the right side, as Mascelli came in to score off a fielding error from the catch.
With two outs in the home half of the seventh, Austin Guibor singled through the right side. The next batter, Jake Stone was hit by the pitch and Guibor moved to third on the called wild pitch. Taylor Ward singled to right plating across the go-ahead runners in Stone and Guibor.
The Seahawks are back in action tomorrow against the same Bulldogs in the mid-week finale.
