Anu Nihipali RESULTS Staten Island, NY – The Wagner swimming & diving team dropped it's last dual meet of the season on the road to Northeast Conference rival, Central Connecticut, 162-138.
With the loss, the Green & White finished the regular season 9-4-1, while posting a conference leading 6-1 record.
Leading the Seahawks were junior
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/ Easthampton) and sophomore
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI/ Hawaii Preparatory Academy) who both swept their individual events.
Lucia paced the Seahawks starting in the 1000-yard freestyle posting a time of 10:31.28, the second-best finisher was teammate
Maggie Shaw (Chantilly, VA/ Chantilly) with a time of 10:32.36. Lucia continued her successful streak in the 200-yard butterfly earning nine points for the Seahawks when she touched the wall at 2:06.31. She finished the day out touching her Blue Devil opponents by .48 of a second in the 100-yard fly (58.30).
Wagner's Nihipali clinched first place in both of her individual events, earning 18 points for the team in her efforts in the two events. The sophomore took the 100-yard backstroke grabbing the wall at 55.91. She finished her afternoon with the 200-yard backstroke, out touching her opponent by .18 of a second (2:04.02)
From the boards,
Erica Curry (Fountain Valley, CA/ Fountain Valley) placed second on the 3-meter posting 222.08 points for Seahawks followed by teammate
Sam Lavrich (Audubon, PA/Methacton), third place, with 222.00 points.
In the 1-meter dives, Lavrich took second place with a total of 225.90 points, followed by Curray, who took third place with 219.83 points.
Other big swims came from junior
Kara Lacoste (Chicopee, MA/ Chicopee Comprehensive), who was the Seahawk's best finisher in the 400-yard IM, recording a time of 4:44:00, which was good enough for second place.
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/ Troy) also earned four points for the Green & White with her second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.02). The sophomore also finished second overall in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.00.
The Seahawks will now gear up for the NEC Championships, which will take place Feb. 26-28 at MIT.
