Box ScoreLewisburg, PA – The Wagner women's water polo team recorded a victory on the opening night of the Bison Invitational, hosted by Bucknell University, as they defeated Metro Atlantic Association Conference (MAAC) foe VMI 19-5.

Kimberly Watson (Point-Claire, Quebec/ John Rennie), senior attacker
Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA/ St. Mary's), junior centers
Lily Doerfler (Annapolis, MD/ Broadneck and
Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia/ Mountain Creek), senior co-captain and attacker
Rachel Burns (Auckland, New Zealand/ Diocesan), lefty assist specialist
Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA/ San Ramon Valley) and sophomore
Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta/ Dr. E.P. Scarlett) in the cage.
The Seahawks opened the game with a scoring on slot as they tallied 10 goals between the first two quarters. The Green & White netted four goals in the first, two goals from Doerfler with Watson and Burns also contributing to the scoring column in the opening stanza as the Seahawks held a four to two advantage after one.
The Green & White's offensive success continued with a six goal output in the second quarter lead by a two goal effort from Rodriguez. Doerfler found the back of the net once again as she registered a hat trick at the halfway mark. Lundgren and Burdge rattled the cage with a goal each as Watson was on the mark again brining the Seahawks lead to 10-4 at the half.
The defensive efforts of the entire squad lead by goalie
Emily Riddle were on display all night as the Keydets would register a lone tally in the second half bringing their total goal count to five. Riddle fresh off a
MAAC defensive player of the week honor, recorded eight saves in the net.
Wagner would outscore VMI 9-1 in the second half with a combination of a potent offensive strike and strangling defensive approach. Rodriguez added one in the second half to give her a trifecta on the night. Freshmen Watson and
Elise Begg (Newbury Park, CA/ Newbury) notched two goals a piece as Lundgren and Burns added another to their totals as well.
Amanda Sutherland (Denton, TX/ Denton Ryan) and
Alexey Chandler (Sacramento, CA/ Saint Francis) recorded their first scores of the season.
The Seahawks improve to 4-1 with the victory and are slated to square-off with nationally ranked opponents Long Beach State and Princeton tomorrow, February 14 at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM respectively.
