New Rochelle, NY – The Wagner women's swimming & diving team was victorious in this afternoon's quad meet against the host Iona College Gaels and fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) foes, Sacred Heart and St. Francis Brooklyn.
The Seahawks earned a 179-46 decision over the Terriers, 159-71 over the Pioneers and a 147-87 victory over the Gaels.
The Green & White's diving program took center stage in the meet, taking first and second place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Senior
Erica Curry (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) earned her first two wins of the 2015-16 season while also rewriting the Wagner record books in the process. Curry tallied 238.85 points on in the 1-meters while scoring 245.40 points in the 3-meter event, earning a first place finish. Sophomore
Sam Lavrich (Audubon, PA/Methacton) took second place in both events, posting identical 208.35 points in both diving events.
The 400 medley relay squad, consisting of senior's Michelle Detka (Buckeye, AZ/Verrado),
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/Troy), and
Corinne Rondina (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) along with sophomore
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI/Hawaii Preparatory Academy) took home first-place honors with a time of 4:01.79. Nihipali also secured a first place finish in the 50 free with a time of 24.65.
In all, the Seahawks won 10 events. For the second consecutive week, senior co-captain
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/Easthampton) swept her individual events, finishing first in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:49.52 and in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall with a time of 2:09.97. Fellow captain and classmate,
Maggie Shaw (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) won the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.52 while also giving the Green & White first and second place in the 1000 free, as she finished behind Lucia, clocking in with a time of 10:53.99.
A pair of sophomores,
Maddie McNichol (Downingtown, PA/Henderson) and
Leahi Camacho (Kailua Kona, HI/Kealakene) took top-billing in the 200 free and 500 free, respectively, with times of 1:57.11 and 5:17.43. Senior
Erin Malone (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) rounded out the successful day for the Seahawks with a first-place finished in the 200 backstroke, which was timed at 2:09.63).
The women's swimming & diving team will return to the pool on November 14 at 11:00 a.m. when the squad travels to Loretto, PA to tangle with fellow NEC member, Saint Francis University.
