Wagner Drops Two To Fairleigh Dickinson

Hackensack, NJ – The Seahawks dropped a pair of Northeast Conference (NEC) games to Fairleigh Dickinson this afternoon, falling 5-2 and 3-2.

The Seahawks are now 19-23 on the season and 6-8 in NEC play. The Knights improve to 17-19 on the season and 7-5 in NEC play.

In game one, McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL / Lakewood Ranch) (9-9) tossed a complete game, striking out three, walking one, and allowing 12 hits and four earned runs.

Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown West) opened the first inning with a double down the left field line. Despite having a runner in scoring position, the Seahawks were unable to push her across.

Fairleigh Dickinson was first to put a run on the board in its frame of the first inning. After loading the bases, the Knights' Bryana Dorado hit a sacrifice fly to push across Madelaine Wilen for an unearned run. The damage could have been worse, however, but Goodale was able to fan the last batter to end the threat.

The Knights tacked on another run in the bottom of the second to increase their lead to 2-0 before adding another run in their frame of the fifth inning to make it 3-0.

The home team would tally a couple of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run homer by Wilen to make it 5-0.

Wagner finally broke through in its frame of the seventh, when Abigail Beasley (Peoria, AZ / Centennial) and Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA / Fountain Valley) hit mammoth back-to-back solo home runs over the left-centerfield fence for their tenth and sixth home runs of the season, respectively. The Seahawks would be unable to plate additional runs.

In game two, Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ / Sandra Day O'Conor) (9-8) hurled a complete game, striking out four, walking two, and allowing five hits and three runs.

The Seahawks opened up the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA / Lynnwood) laced a shot over the heads of the outfield for a solo homer to give Wagner a 1-0 lead.

The Knights put a runner in scoring position in their frame of the fourth, but Bedker induced a ground out, pop out, and strike out to end the threat.

Fairleigh Dickinson had another chance to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth with one out, yet freshman third baseman Aerika High (Manheim, PA / Manheim Central) made two incredible defensive stops to end the inning.

Wagner extended its lead over Fairleigh Dickinson in the top of the sixth inning. Tredway reached on a base hit up the middle, and advanced on a Taylor Beeson (Mesa, AZ / Sunrise Mountain) sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Parker tallied her second RBI of the game with a single to leftfield to drive in Tredway and make it a 2-0 game.

The Knights cut the Seahawks' lead in half in the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot to center. After loading the bases, Fairleigh Dickinson recorded two more runs to claim its first lead of the game. With two outs and two on, Bedker fanned a batter to earn the final out of the inning and end the danger.

Unfortunately, Wagner was unable regain its lead and the game ended with a final score of 3-2.

The Seahawks return to action next Saturday, May 3, when they host LIU Brooklyn for the final doubleheader of the regular season. Game one is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
