Staten Island, NY – The Seahawks posted a pair of Senior Day wins against Northeast Conference (NEC) opponent Robert Morris this afternoon, besting the Colonials 8-3 and 5-4.
Wagner improves to 19-21 on the season and an even 6-6 in NEC play. Robert Morris falls to 24-23 on the season and 5-9 in NEC play.
In game one,
McKaleigh Goodale (Brandenton, FL / Lakewood Ranch) (9-8) hurled a complete game, striking out five while allowing ten hits and three runs.
As a club, Wagner recorded 13 hits from nine different batters.
Freshman second baseman
Taylor Beeson (Mesa, AZ / Red Mountain) led the Green & White's offensive attack, going three-for-three at the plate, with two RBI and three runs scored. Junior short stop
Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA / Lynnwood) was also instrumental in the victory, knocking in three runs while also scoring one run.
Wagner pushed across the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman centerfielder
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown West) led off the batting order with a walk, advanced to second base on a Beeson sacrifice bunt, and scored on a throwing error by the short stop to give the home team a 1-0 advantage.
The Colonials momentarily earned that run back in the top of the third to tie that game at 1-1, but the Seahawks regained the lead in their frame of the inning. With one out, Beeson singled up the middle, reached second base on an error by the second baseman, and scored on an error by the short stop to make it 2-1.
The Green & White increased its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring three runs to make it 5-1. With one out,
Megan Moore (Pottstown, PA / Owen J. Roberts) and Tredway hit back-to-back singles.
Camille Kiyota (Kamuela, HI / Hawaii Preparatory Academy) entered the game to pinch run for Moore, and both runners on base were driven home when Beeson doubled to the outfield. With one out and one on, Parker plated Beeson for Wagner's final run of the inning.
The Seahawks tacked on another three runs in the bottom of the sixth to boost their lead to 8-1. Beeson opened the frame with a double to right field. Parker followed with a home run to left center, her seventh dinger of the season. Sophomore right fielder
Abigail Beasley (Peoria, AZ / Centennial) then laced a double to right center. One out later, junior first baseman
Beth Lewis single to right field, advancing Beasley to third.
Senior left fielder
Hayley Sullivan then plated Wagner's last run of the game, sending a hit through the right side to score Beasley.
Robert Morris put a small dent in Wagner's lead in the bottom of the seventh, pushing across two runs to make it 8-3 before Goodale induced a routine grounder for the third out.
In game two,
Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ / Sandra Day O'Connor) (9-7) was in the circle for all seven innings, walking two, striking out two, while allowing nine hits and three earned runs.
As a club, Wagner had seven hits all from different batters.
The Green & White took an early lead, scoring one run in the top of the first inning to make it 1-0. Just like game one, Tredway scored Wagner's opening run. Tredway drew a walk, advanced one base on a Beeson ground out, then touched home plate on a Parker single to right field.
Robert Morris looked to get on the board in the top of the second inning, yet stranded a pair of runners when Bedker garnered all three outs in a row.
Wagner added another tally to its total in the bottom of the second to make it 2-0. With two outs, freshman third baseman
Aerika High (Manheim, PA / Manheim Central) attacked the first pitch of her at-bat, sending the ball over the fence for her fifth home run of the season.
The Seahawks pushed across two more runs in their frame of the third to increase their lead to 4-0. Beeson opened the inning with a walk, and advanced to second base when Parker laid down a sacrifice bunt. One out later,
Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA / Fountain Valley) singled, and advanced on a throwing error when the Colonials tried unsuccessfully to throw Beeson out at the plate.
Lewis then plated Bott, lacing a double down the right field line to record Wagner's final run of the inning.
Robert Morris was finally able to answer in the top of the fourth inning, pushing across three runs before tacking on the tying run in the top of the fifth to make it 4-4.
Beasley would register the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning, hitting a deep shot over the fence to make it 5-4.
The Colonials had the tying run on base with one out, but Bedker induced both a ground out and a fly out to earn the final two outs of the game.
The Seahawks return to action tomorrow, when they travel to Hackensack, NJ, to face Fairleigh Dickinson in a NEC doubleheader. The first game is slated for a 12:00 pm start. In addition to following live stats, fans will be able to watch both contests on NEC Front Row.
