Garder-Webb Rallies Late In Game To Defeat Wagner 4-3

BOX SCORE

Rock Hill, SC –
The Wagner softball team dropped a 4-3 decision to Gardner-Webb during the final day of competition at the Combat Invitational, held on the campus of Winthrop College, as the Seahawks fall to 2-6 on the season.

This game was scoreless throughout the first three innings, as both teams exhibited solid defense. In the top of the fourth, Wagner pushed across its first run.  Hana Gilbert got things started with a single through the right side. Taylor Rauscher then doubled to center field, ahead of a bunt by teammate Aerika High. Though Gilbert was tagged out at home plate, Rauscher was able to venture safely to third base, before Brianna Tredway's RBI single allowed Rauscher to score.

Wagner would add a tally in the top of the fifth. Lead-off hitter Taylor Beeson got on base with a single, before Kelsey Parker reached on a bunt. Abigail Beasley then laced a single into left field, driving in Beeson to make it a 2-0 game.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Following a scoreless sixth inning, Beasley blasted a solo shot to center to increase the Seahawk lead to 3-1.

Wagner was unable to hold on,however, as Gardner-Webb staged a three-run, game-winning rally in the bottom of the seventh to win it, 4-3.

The Green & White next return to action Friday, March 7, when they travel to our nation's capital for the Colonials Tournament. Wagner will face Howard, Binghamton, and host George Washington over the three-day event.
