Norfolk, VA - The Wagner softball team dropped its final game of the Spartan Clash Tournament 14-2 to Delaware State while falling to 2-1 on the young season.
The Seahawks opened the scoring in the first inning.
Kristen Matteoni led off the game with a double before moving to third on
Taylor Beeson's sacrifice bunt.
Kelsey Parker then picked up Matteoni with a RBI single.
Delaware State rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the third inning in grabbing a 2-1 advantage.
Wagner quickley rallied to tie the score at 2-2, when
Brenda Bott plated Parker with a RBI single down the left field line.
The Hornets reclaimed the leada in the fifth inning, scoring five runs before putting the game away with nine runs in the sixth inning.
Despite the loss, the Seahawks had a successful opening weekend, earning two wins against Yale and host Norfolk State. The victories marked the first time in program history that the Green & White won their two opening games.
Wagner returns to action next weekend, when they travel to Rock Hill, SC, for the Combat Invitational. The event, which takes place from February 28-March 2, will pit the Seahawks against teams such as Northern Colorado, Cleveland State, Furman, Winthrop, and Gardner Webb.
