Piscataway, NJ – The Wagner women's swimming & diving team finished in fifth place overall at the 2014 Frank Elm Invitational after collecting a respectable 963 points during the three-day affair. The Invitational, which takes place at Rutgers University, welcomes 12 teams from various regions of the Northeast.
Individually the Green & White were victorious in three events: 100 yard backstroke, 200 yard backstroke and the 1650 freestyle. Sophomore
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI / Hawaii Preparatory Academy) claimed first in both the 100 yard and 200 yard backstroke with times of 54.38 and 1:58.36. Sophomore
Grace Baird (Lexington, NC / West Davidson High School) took home first place in the 1650 freestyle with a mark of 16:37.89.
Senior Sam Sides (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East) began competition for Wagner this weekend when she finished third in the B-Final in the 50 yard freestyle at the invitational with a time of 24.01.
Michelle Greenough (Davis, CA / Davis) finished fifth in the E-Final during the same event.
Sides followed up the 50 free with a seventh place finish in the 100 yard free in the B-Final. In the C-Final freshman
Maddie McNichol (Downingtown, PA / Henderson) finished fourth while junior
Corinne Rondina (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) finished fifth with times of 53.13 and 53.23 respectively. The D-Final saw sophomore
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI / Hawaii Preparatory Academy) finish eighth while the E-Final saw junior
Kristine Sullivan (Overland Park, KS / Notre Dame de Sion) finish sixth.
Sophomore
Grace Baird claimed first in the 200 yard freestyle B-Final with a time of 1:52.91 following her in that final was McNichol who finished fourth with a time of 1:53.98. The C-Final saw Freshman
Kirsty Hessing (Bloomington, IL / Normal Community) finish fourth and junior
Maggie Shaw (Chantilly, VA / Chantilly) claim fifth. Rounding out the 200 freestyle for the Seahawks was Sullivan who finished first in the E-Final.
The 500 yard freestyle saw Baird come in second place with a time of 4:54.40 while junior
Amanda Lucia finished in fourth with a time of 4:56.91. McNichol, Shaw, freshman
Leahi Camacho (Kailua Kona, HI / Kealakene), Hesssing finished in 14th, 19th, 25th, and 29th respectively.
Baird continued her stellar performance during the 1650 freestyle where she placed first for the Green & White with a time of 16:37.89. Shaw and Camacho also participated in the event and finished 15th and 19th individually.
The 100 yard backstroke saw Nihipali finish 1st with a time of 54.38. Lacoste and
Meghan Mendez came in 18th and 20th while Malone, Michelle Detka (Buckeye, AZ / Verrado (University of Houston) and
Kaitlin Murtha (New Fairfield, CT / New Fairfield) finished 21st, 28th and 38th respectively.
Nihipali continued form during the 200 yard backstroke where she finished 1st with a time of 1:58.36. Junior
Kara Lacoste (Chicopee, MA / Chicopee Comprehensive) finished 13th with a time of 2:05.91 and she had Murtha closely behind her with a time of 2:06.60 to finish 15th. Mendez came in 22nd while Malone finished 25th. Slocomb and
Morgan Stoner rounded out the event for the Seahawks finishing in 30th and 35th.
Sophomore
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA / Troy High School) finished tenth overall and 1st for the Green & White in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.30. Rounding out the event was Slocomb who came in 21st place. Claesson followed that performance up with a 7th place performance in the 200 yard breaststroke. Slocomb and Lacoste placed 13th and 22nd respectively.
The 100 yard butterfly saw junior
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA / Easthampton) finish in fourth place in a time of 55.82. Malone and Sides finished in 20th and 23rd. Rounding out the event for the Seahawks was Detka who finished 25th.
Lucia continued her strong performance during the 200 yard butterfly, finishing in 3rd place with a time of 1:59.80. Camacho was next in line as she finished 16th with a time of 2:10.56.
Erin Finn finished first in the C-Final and 17th overall in the event with a time of 2:08.34.
Nihipali finished 1st in the C-Final and 17th overall for the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:05.35.
Kristine Sullivan came in 21st place during the event in a time of 2:09.01. Rounding out the 200 yard IM for the Green & White was Slocomb who placed 26th.
Lucia finished the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:22.03 which gave her a 4th place finish. Lacoste and Murtha finished in 15th and 20th while Camacho and Stoner finished in 25th and 32nd respectively.
During the 200 yard freestyle relay Wagner's teams place in 6th and 15th with times of 1:36.01 and 1:38.60. The 400 yard freestyle saw the two teams place in 9th and 19th in times of 3:32.51 and 3:35.67. The 800 yard freestyle relay saw the Seahawks finish in times of 7:40.35 and 7:50.63 to finish in 7th and 14th respectively.
The 200 yard medley relay saw the Green & White finish in 5th and 18th in times of 1:44.36 and 1:48.70. The 400 yard medley relay rounded out the swimming events for the Seahawks and they finished in times of 3:48.06 and 3:55.42 to finish 4th and 15th.
Freshman
Sam Lavrich (Audubon, PA / Methacton) placed 12th with a score of 217.45 in the 1-meter dive while junior
Erica Curry (Fountain Valley, CA / Fountain Valley) came in 15th place with a score of 201.25. The Seahawks took 11th through 14th place for the 3-meter dive. Curry scored a 217.70, Lavrich a 209.90, senior
Mallory Lee (Newark, CA / Moreau Catholic) scored a 204.35, and rounding out the event was freshman
Grace Solipaca (Philadelphia, PA / Bishop Eustace) who scored a 200.25.
The Green & White will return to action when they travel to Rhode Island on January, 17th in a meet that begins at 1:00 p.m.
