Box Score 2 Brooklyn, NY – The Wagner College softball team was swept Sunday in an NEC doubleheader at LIU Brooklyn, falling 6-5 in nine innings in the first game before dropping the second game, 5-1. Wagner is now 9-30 and 2-12 in the NEC, while LIU improves to 12-31 and 8-4 in conference action.
Wagner jumped ahead early in the first game. The first three Seahawk batters reached, bringing freshman
Abigail Beasley (Peoria, AZ/ Centennial) to the plate. The first-year Seahawk clubbed a grand slam to left to give Wagner a 4-0 lead.
The teams then traded single tallies in the following three half-innings, with freshman
Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA/ Fountain Valley) coming around to score what would prove to be the final Wagner run of game one.
LIU would score two in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the game. After Wagner escaped a bases-loaded jam in the seventh, the Seahawks would not be as fortunate in the ninth, with the Blackbirds pushing across the winning run.
The Blackbirds would take the early lead in the nightcap, scoring one run in the second before Wagner knotted the game at 1-1 on Beasley's fifth RBI of the day, courtesy of a groundout.
From there, LIU would tally three more in the bottom of the frame, and one more in the sixth for the final margin.
The Seahawks return to action on Thursday, Apr. 18 at 3:00 when the Green & White host Lafayette.
