Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's lacrosse team hosts a Central Connecticut St. team that's tied for first place with Monmouth in the Northeast Conference (NEC) standings on Friday at 3:00 pm.
In addition to boasting a perfect 5-0 league mark, Central Connecticut is riding a six-game winning streak and comes into the game with a 7-5 mark on the season. The Seahawks will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak and enter the matchup with the Blue Devils owning an overall record of 5-9, 1-5 in the NEC.
Wagner is led in scoring by sophomore
Jessica Mills (Vernon, NJ/ Vernon Township) who has tallied 49 points on 20 goals and a team-high and single-season school-record 29 assists. Mills ranks second in the NEc assists per game (2.07) and 23
rd nationally while her 29 assists rank 16
th in the nation.
Senior Annie O'Connor (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) is next with 32 points on a team-high 22 goals and 10 assists while freshman
Casey McCarthy (Cypress, TX/ Cy-Fair) checks in with 24 points (17 goals, 7 assists) and a team-high 26 draw controls to go with 18 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers.
Freshmen
Stephanie Peterson (Vernon, NJ/ Vernon Township) and
Kimmy Tumolo (Mullica Hill, NJ/ Clearview) have notched 18 points apiece while two more freshmen are in double-digit scoring in midfielders
Shea Gegan (Manasquan, NJ/ Manasquan) and
Tori McGrath (Albany, NY/ Bethlehem Central) who have totaled 15 and 12 points, respectively. Gegan is the team leader in caused turnovers with 32, one shy of tying the Wagner all-time single-season charts and also leads the Seahawks in ground balls (25) while her 25 draw controls are just one behind McCarthy's team-leading 26.
In goal, freshman
Katie Ferraro (Owings Mill, MD/ McDonogh) has started 13 of Wagner's 14 goals and has amassed 93 saves in more than 725 minutes of action and sports a goals against average of 11.01. Sophomore
Shannon Sweeney (Madison, NJ/Madison) has played in five games with one start and has a 7.84 goals against average, along with 14 saves, in just under 115 minutes of action.
