Box Score
Clearwater, FL – The Wagner College softball team fell to Chattanooga, 9-2, on Friday afternoon at the Eddie C. Moore Complex. In the defeat, the Seahawks fall to 0-6, while the Mocs improve to 12-9.
Chattanooga tallied runs in five of the first six innings, taking an 8-0 lead into the bottom half of the sixth, with Wagner needing at least one in the bottom of the frame to force the seventh inning. Senior
Carley Nicoletti (Plainville, NY/ CW Baker) led off the inning with a double, looking to chip in to the deficit. The next two batters were retired, leaving the Seahawks down to their final out.
Sophomore
Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/ Lynnwood) then lined a 2-1 pitch up the middle, plating Nicoletti and reaching second. Junior
Kristen Matteoni (Reno, NV/ Galena) joined Parker on the base paths after being hit by a pitch for the second time in the game, leading to an RBI single by senior
Brittany Huss (Anthem, AZ/ Boulder Creek) to make it 8-2.
That would be the closest the Seahawks made the deficit, though, as Chattanooga added one more in the seventh for the final 9-2 margin.
Sophomore
Olivia Zwick (Surrey, British Columbia/ Earl Marriott) made the start for Wagner, pitching 1 1/3 innings before giving way to sophomore
Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ/ Sandra Day O'Connor). Bedker went 5 1/3 before Zwick reentered for the final out.
The Seahawks return to action with a doubleheader on Saturday, facing Boston University at 2:30 pm before facing South Florida at 4:45 pm.
