Fairfield, CT – The Wagner College softball team fell in both ends of a doubleheader at Sacred Heart on Saturday. In the losses, the Seahawks fall to 4-19 and 0-4 in the NEC, while the Pioneers improve to 16-9 and 2-0 in conference play.
Junior
Taylor Rauscher (Peoria, AZ/ Sunrise Mountain) and freshman
Abigail Beasley (Peoria, AZ/ Centennial) each tallied two hits in the doubleheader.
The Pioneers jumped ahead in game one on a two out, first-inning single to left field. They would add to the lead with a single tally in the third inning for a 2-0 advantage, and tally two runs each in the fourth, fifth and sixth for the final 8-0 margin.
In the second game, the teams traded scoreless frames for the first four innings before Sacred Heart broke through in the bottom of the fifth for the contest's lone run.
Sophomore
Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ/ Sandra Day O'Connor) turned in a solid effort in game two, surrendering a run on four hits while striking out seven over six innings.
Wagner returns to action Saturday with a doubleheader at Bryant in Smithfield, RI, beginning at 12:00.
